Thanks.

Here's one. Is there a way to take my network dial up someplace and
have all my network dudes connect up to the outside network?

Man I'm less than 1 mile away from where cable modems are offered. Boy
that would ahve been nice to host on that. It's aprox. 3 time faster
than T1.

Mother-In-Law has it but I don't feel like lugging stuff over there.

The reason they took this feature out is because more people were using it
to change history. It is more realistic if you happen to crash out with 15
laps to go. The real Nascar drivers can't restart a race because they
crashed out on the first lap.  How come people insist on cheating on a sim
so realistic? Ask Bobby Labonte when he crashed out at Bristol. You'd
probably be kicking objects around if you crashed out of the lead, or
worse, with 5 laps to go. Such a feature would also help the directors of
offline racing series. Now they can't restart a race because they crashed
out. They do have to run the full laps with damage on. (I talk to much)

>Not me...I'm sure many a real driver wishes they could save a race in

I used to have a race game that had a great save option on my old Mac.
I used to save the game every lap. (well... some tracks were long and
I would be a waste of time if I had to repeat laps!)  Looks like when
I get Nascar 2 (soon I hope!) those days will be over!  This option
defently makes the game more realistic!

Not all of us are talking about cheating.  Some of us would just like to be
able to run a race of greater than 10% every once and awhile with a better
than 50% chance of actually getting to finish the game.  Belive it or not,
some of us actually have lives out in the "real" world, and can't devote
the 3-4 hours needed to finish some of the longer races.

More realistic?  How many of the "real" NASCAR drivers have their wives or
kids come into the "car" while they are driving and bug them until they pay
some attention to them?  Or do some domestic chore that just can't wait?
Or answer the damn phone that just keeps ringing and ringing?

The car is already so freaking "realistic" that I can barely drive it
around some of the tracks, and now I have to wait for the family to go to
sleep or just lock them out of the "car" before I can run a decent race
because I can't save a game in progress.

Why do you people insist on a "game" being so realistic that you can't save
your current game?  Hell, let's take out the pause button too!  That sure
ain't very realistic.  And why are you allowed to continue to race in a
season where you were totally demolished at Talladega?  Sure Dale E.
managed to race the next weekend, but had to have a relief driver after
what,  8 laps or so?  That sure isn't very "realistic".  You crash bad, sit
out a few weeks before it lets you play again.  Talk about realism!

And if he crashes out, and wants to restart at his last saved game, so
what?  Multi-Nascar never had a save game option that I am aware of, so who
does it affect?  No one but the person playing the "game".  The NRL or NRO
or whatever it is ultimately called is a real-time race right?  Couldn't
save squat there.

If the save game option requires too much horsepower for the current
computers to handle it, so be it.  But it was just taken out for the sake
of "realism", let's really get real.  Remove the opponent percentages, make
all races 100% in length, take out the options of pace lap, yellow flag,
damage on, take what weather you get, get rained out, etc, etc.

Don't gimmie that ***about how it is a 'sim' and real racers can't save
their race.  It is ultimately a "game" , granted it is a darn good, very
authentic one, but it is still a game.  And the better ones allow you to
save your game so you can come back to it another time and take up where
you left off.

my .25 worth. ( Actually, it cost me $49.00 to come up with that opinion )

Yes, while this is true I'm not getting paid to sit here and race for 4
hours either.  Some of us actually have to go to college and work and can
only find time here and there to complete a race and this is where the save
game comes in very handy!

The real drivers also get paid thousands of dollars to sit there for 3-4
hours at a time.

REPLY:

I respect what your saying. but I think yoo are taking SIM a little to
far.

For ex. why doesn't papy have it, if you change a setup you have to
connect to their web and actually purchase the parts from them with
your credit card. That's realistic paying for the parts, but they can
keep that too. There's a line between fun and sim. Even though I have
yet to do a marathon I definately can sympathize with those who are
missing it. I mean if you want to cheat in the privacy of your own home
than why not?

That's exactly how I feel! Stop talking about realism, and give
me a save option. _I_ should be the one deciding whether I want to
drive my races at one go or not!

there are a LOT of offline series drivers (mainly because we can't
afford the long distance phone bills) and believe me, I would bet that
about most if not all of them have either used that save feature to
their advantage or have been tempted to, many times.

I really don't understand this line of reasoning at all.  What does
papyrus care how I use the game, so long as I enjoy it and keep buying
future upgrades and new versions.  How does it detract from your
*** experience if I like to save my race weekend so I don't have to
start all over if I crash out?  Does this somehow offend papyrus that
people are doing this?  For that matter, if this is really the reason
for taking it out, then why not follow this line of reasoning to it's
logical conclusion and take out the damage off, brake help, steering
help, and arcade modes too.  Not to mention the weather settings, and
for that matter, how dare they let us run with less than a full field
of cars?  I mean, REAL Nascar drivers don't get steering, braking, and
shifting help, and they certainly don't get an arcade driving mode or
an invulnerable car to drive!

Nope, I don't buy it.  This is a game, and it's not papyrus's job to
tell us how to play it and enjoy it, and I honestly don't think that's
what they're doing.  My guess is the save game just ended up on the
cutting room floor with the show frame rate feature and anti-aliasing
support due to lack of time.  I for one hope it gets resurrected in a
patch, because even if I don't want to use it, it doesn't offend me in
the lease if somebody else does.

You lost me somewhere. I don't think I understand the network topography
you're describing. What is "my network dial up", where is "someplace" and
what is "the outside network"?

Ahh excuse me guys!...just because I don't have 4 hrs straight to
spare, and so need to ability to save game, does'nt mean I'm "cheating" in
the race...ok! If I crashed...I was out, if I wanted to play it that
way.
And forget the realism versus simulation argument...it has nothing to do
with either...it's all about practicalities.Having a saved game option
is just practical...if you don't like it...don't use it.
Now I'm not saying I have'nt rerun a saved game coz I crashed out...on
the contrary...rerunning the saved game, has given me the opprtunity to
see how things would have turned out, had I not crashed....to see
whether my pitstop strategies and tire choices actually
worked!...playing it "real" and leaving the race, does'nt do that,so I'd
learn nothing.
Think of beginners, just learning to race - learning all the mechanics
of tire wear, long term engine loads, fuel consumption figures, etc.
How do these people get to learn about any of that!, when they are still
green behind the wheel???
(and if someone replies with "Well they'll just have to learn to be
better drivers so they can go the distance", I'll be pissed-off.
Papyrus (Sierra)  put in an arcade mode so people could learn the ropes.
Now when they switch to Realstic mode they have no in game assistance to
learn the LONGER TERM effects of racing, on a race car.

Happy racing

Somehow I don't think that one will happen.  the save race option
maybe, but not in multiplayer (a pause function).  you're best to tell
the other driver to hang on and pull over...

I *think* (don't quote me here, I'm stretching my neck out a bit...)
that he means an internet ISP, and meet his internet buddies, ala
"IRC" only to race (probably needs Kali?)
