Isn't there a restrictor plate removal file for Daytona and Talledaga? I
found a site but the downloads were not available.

As I recall in N3 or N2???? you could edit one line in a config file
and remove the plates. It was cool - probably how B. Elliot felt in
a few years back turning 210 or whatever at Dega.....anyway, is
it possible with N4?

No file needed. Open the track.ini file in the track directory. Change
track_type and chassis_type to 2.

I hit 275 MPH on talledega, consistently run above 260 MPH on the course.
'Course, that's with modified grip. Only about 245 without.

No offense taken Dave..didn't want to get on your bad side :o)

275 at Talladega? Maybe I shouldn't experiment..don't want to blow the Ai's
little minds.

Well David Indech pretty much explained my case...275mph at Tally,
modifying the grip levels, and who knows what else.  Then you no longer have
a Nascar sim.  It may work great for a Cart mod but it sure ain't nascar
anymore, no matter what the cars look like.
  Have fun!

N4 restrictor plates..

There is a line in the track.ini that pertains to plates.  If you edit
this line (change the setting to one if it is zero, or vice versa) you
can race single player races without plates.  I don't know if you have
to change any AI settings or not to make them run faster.  All I've
ever done this for was a testing session.

If you want to join a multiplayer race, your track.ini has to be
identical to the servers.  I would guess, though I never got around to
testing it, that if both the client's and the server's track.ini was
set for "no plates" that you could host/join a superspeedway race
without restrictor plates.

Anyone done this in multiplayer?

Nah..sticking to the restrictor plates. I can tweak and play with the ai at
realistic speeds :o))

I have been experimenting with said hi-speed mod...the AI without
extensive modifications to other parameters (grip, drag, acceleration, etc.)
will be VERY unstable-often drifting up at the end of turns 2 and 4 and
slamming the right side into the wall, for example...

Orion runs hybrid setup races online.  To practice off-line, you have to
have a way to remove the plate.

I don't see any problems with this as long as it's a supported modification
for the server in use.

It is kind of fun running those tracks the 'old-fashioned' way.
