Problem with T2 with Nascar 1999 edition in Windows 98

by B. Keith Barbo » Thu, 22 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I recently put a fresh install of Windows 98 on my system and
since then, I have not been able to get Windows 98 or any
game for that matter to detect the gas and brake pedal of
my Thrustmaster T2.

At first, I couldn't get Windows 98 to even detect the darn thing
and then I called Thrustmaster support.  The guy told me to remove
all other controllers from the list in the Game Controllers box in
Windows 98.  I removed my Gravis Xterminator and it finally did see
the wheel as a Thrustmaster T1/T2 with adapter.  I can calibrate the
steering just fine, but I see no activity at all when I press the
pedals.  Assuming it was calibrated, I started up Nascar 1999 and when
I try to calibrate the thing inside the game, it doesn't see the
pedals there either.  I feel like I have tried everything so if anyone
knows what I'm doing wrong or not doing at all, I'd appreciate a good
swift kick in the ass.

Thanks,

Keith

I don't have Win98, but check and see if there is a "rudder" box in the
properties section for your T2.  Try playing with checking or unchecking
this box.  Also insure that you have the right port assigned for your
gamecard in the Advanced tab of the games controller.  It shouldn't work
any better, but hey it's worth a try.... Try using TM's ProPanel
ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/calibration/propanelv11.exe

Also, you may want to try the non-DirectX option inside NASCAR1999

Well, just for gits and shiggles, try running the DOS .exe
from a DOS box and see if it'll calibrate your pedals. if so, it's a
Win98 problem, if not there either, it's either in your pedals, or
your controller.
Also, under in the Win98 version of NR99, try changing your
Controller driver in the Controls section of Options.  If it's
DirectX, change to Papyrus, if it's Papyrus, change to Dx.

Did you try "T1/T2 WITHOUT adaptor"?

Right, see the Thrustmaster website for some faqs. Since '96, november
somewhere, the T2's don't need the adapter anymore, since the wiring
was changed.
