Wheels W/ Paddles as Gas & Brakes

by Tim Deatherag » Fri, 10 Dec 1999 04:00:00

For the last two years,  I have exclusively used Wheels with use paddles
(behind the wheels) as pedals for the gas and brake.

I have the following:

TM GP1
TM Sprint
CompUSA Formula 1 (Seems to be made by TM as T1/T2 with Adapter_
Thomas TSW2-EZ

Someone told me there were other paddle type wheels and there was even a FF
wheel out !

Can anyone point me toward the way ????

THANKS !!!

Such as wheel does exsist, almost anyway. The Guillemot Force Feedback wheel
(aka Ferrari wheel) has a nice set of shifting paddles, and underneath those
is a nice set of gas/brake paddles. Its supposed to be a nice, smooth FF
wheel and it looks great. The problem is that I don't think its released yet
and I have found only one review on it at www.mgprs2.com . It also offers
split axis for gas and brake and a shifter lever as well as paddles. If you
find out any more, like more reviews or a release date or where it can be
bought (should be around $130 to $150) please let me know.

I think you should be looking at the new Guillemot Ferrari wheel which has
F1 style gear change flippers and analogue flippers(?) for accelerator and
brake.

There is precious little on their web page last time I looked but they are
in the shops in the UK. http://www.racesimcentral.net/

In fact I have one tucked away for Sant to deliver on Xmas day, until then
my knackered TM Force Gt will just have to take more punishment.

Andi.

Wheels W/ Paddles as Gas & Brakes

I bought a Guillemot Ferrari Force Feedback Racing Wheel here in England
last weekend.  It's list price here is 90 ($144) but I managed to get it
for 55 ($88) because the shop had put the Playstation version's bar code on
it by mistake.  Lucky me!

I'm still getting used to it as it is my first force feedback wheel but I
have been very impressed by it.  I like having the option of two type of
gear change.  The pedals have a good range of movement and on the whole it
is a very solid piece of kit.

In answer to your question about the paddles, it has four paddles.  Two are
normal buttons and two are analogue paddles which are active if the pedals
are not plugged in.  I haven't tried them as I prefer pedals but they seem
to have a good range of movement and solid springs.

BTW if anyone has come up with a good set of GPL force feedback settings for
this wheel, please can they post them here.

Cheers

Phil

The CompUSA wheel is actually a variation of the CH Products EXL-500 minus
the pedals; it's NOT a Thrustmaster product.  Nice wheel for a low price,
IMO, especially if pedals aren't important to you.

What major UK stores sell this wheel Phil?

I must admit to looking with blinkers on just lately for just one wheel
and may have past by this wheel without seeing it!

I may just have to get one to keep me going for now.

As i dont seem to be able to find a LWFF.
