Hi guys,

Mara (The Middle Aged Racers Association) have pooled together their
iRacing beta tester invites for members and now have a number left over.
Mature, the very old and preferably slow but safe drivers who fancy
blowing their kids' inheritance on a sim racing career should apply with
their full name and email to address to:

tony.rickard at blueyonder.co.uk

Younger guys will be considered if they promise to show the old guys
which way the course runs to save them any embarassing moments.

Cheers
Tony

Dang, meeting the old MARA guys again would be fun. I checked with
"Dresdner Bank" in Germany, and they seem to offer pre-paid credit
cards for 30 Euros / year which would add to the total iRacing tally,
of course. Maybe iRacing would be more fun for me if I met more
familiar names online on a more regular basis. A friend of mine who's
never raced in iR before did a Skip Barber race last night under my
moniker (actually, we switched the drivers seat a couple of times
during the event) at Vir, and to see him enjoy himself quite a bit
even though he ran at the back of the field restored some of my faith
in DK et al.

He tested the "milk truck" that is the Solstice offline afterwards,
and had a much harder time keeping it on the track than the Skip
Barber. He wasn't exactly thrilled by the prospect of having to run
this car for several weeks before he'd be able to license the Skip
Barber trainer, though.

Also, it's really great to see RAS stirred back into some activity by
iR, whatever becomes of the project itself ;-)

All the best, Uwe

Hearing people's opinions of the Solstice is disheartening.  The
rookie version dump trucks all over the place, but the advanced car is
probably my favorite in the sim.  It's pretty much exactly like a Spec
Miata (the car specs are practically identical) and is pretty much
perfect for capturing the feel of low-powered club racing.

Everyone has to start somewhere.  You'll survive :)

We testers lived through the process several times over so I'm speaking from
experience.

If you are Mid-Atlantic, yes :)

BTW... The site is back up and accepting payment :)  The process was
painless.

Mazda Miata is for chicks.
