Then someone should create " rec.autos.simulators.binaries " until
then this is the best place to post them considering the subject
matter and that the other binary groups (alt.binaries.games &
alt.binaries.misc) have too much traffic to look for .pcx files and
car sets.
I personally do not know how to go about creating a new newsgroup but
I'm sure someone does. I'f they (.pcx) continue to be posted here then
maybe someone, that does not want them here, will create a new
newsgroup with the appropriate subject matter.
I am fairly new to the net and I know how particular us users can be,
but this is the best place to post them for now and its not that big
of a deal.

This is my honest opionion on this matter.

Thank You

I would also like to suggest that people take their political B.S.
(Speed limits, Joe Blow for Pres...) somewhere else. Read the newsgroup
heading, REC.AUTOS.SIMULATORS. Hello????

Until we have a rec.autos.simulators.binaires (which is unlikely due to
the SMALL number of .pcx's that get posted anyway) newsgroup, I think that
people should continue to keep posting their pcx files here..it's nice
for those of us who like a little variety in nascar, but are to lazy or
aren't artistic enough to make them ourselves.

Besides..no one FORCES you to read them, do they? Does someone clamp your
head in front of the monitor and keep you tied up with your eyelids glued
open? I doubt it...just don't select the message when you read others.
Very simple, Very easy.

If the few amount of binaries that actually appear here DO get in the
way, you need a new newsreader program.  If you don;t like them because
you simply select ALL the articles EVERY time, then that's your own fault.

I wouldn't call him an idiot.  He has a valid point.

Admittedly, while the .PCX files are small, some people don't have the
luxury of Free Agent or NXpress that lets them pick and choose which
articles they can download or read.  I'd have to say the real idiots
are those who can't see beyond their own terminals and consider what
'Net life is like for other people.

Granted, the .PCXs have more of a place than these incredibly stupid
and inane posts about whose car is a bigger phallic symbol than
someone else's.

Excuse me, I dont think that was called for.  I post a simple
message asking not to post pcx files here because this newsgroup is
not a binaries, now you got to jump in a start name calling.  I
believe if you reread this line you are referring to yourself.

The problem is, it is becoming more than just a few. Pretty soon
thats all will be on here, then all of us who dont want them will have
to sit and waste our timing weeding thru them. This newsgroup is for
messages.  Someone needs to create a binaries group for these pcx
files or goto to the one that is already created for pc games.  Some
of us download all messages automatically, makes things easier.
If you want to flame me go ahead. I will not be part of this
childish game.  Use some commonsense.

Thanks, Mike

The problem is that some are FORCED to spend the time(=$$) for thier
newsreaders to download all the articles first before they have a chance
to weed them out.  I personally don't have that problem (eithernet all
the way and I suppose you too at UMN) but the poor folks at AOL,
COMPUSERVE, etc... gotta deal with the measly 14.4 or 28.8 modems.
If I'm wrong let me know, but I believe that's how a majority have to
read these things.

Matt,

FWIW, those using Prodigy & Compuserve are  _not_ required to download
all articles from the newsgroup; they have the ability to "browse" and
select which posts they wish to read.

My $.02 . . . Personally I enjoy seeing various pcx's and until such time
as a rec.autos.simulation.binaries group is created I would like to see
them here.  If anyone is being forced to download all posts, well . . .
maybe they ought to find a different provider ; )   I mean, lets be
honest, the majority of whats posted to the so-called "newsgroups" can't
be classified as "news" anyway.  I think we all have to accept the fact
that we are going to get a lot of "chaff" with the "wheat."  I,
personally, think this whole "what type post belongs here, and what
doesn't" is getting a little too "PC" . . . if it concerns auto sims, it
probably belongs here, whether its a news report, opinion, pcx, or
whatever.

But then that's just my opinion and probably doesn't mean "squat"  ; )

regards,
-Brent

Sorry Mike! That came out all wrong, my apologies!  I didn't mean to
personally call *you* an idiot... it was an expression, and,
obviously, taken the wrong way....

Where I was coming from is, some people just like to "complain" for
the sake of complaining....  wasn't meant to mean you, just a
stereotype that I have become frustrated dealing with.  Again, it
wasn't meant at you directly.

Question... are you stuck downloading every and all article in the
newsgroup or can you pick and choose?  Just wondering.  Apparently,
some people actually have to "read em' all" and I can see where that
might be frustrating for persons in that situation.  Otherwise, I
can't see where we don't just pick and choose.

I do agree, we could use a .binaries group.  And yes, it would be nice
if we had someplace to send em' for ftp purposes.  However, some of
these users just want to share something.  Most of the .pcx files are
very small, less than 400 lines I do believe.  Personally, I was
grateful that these people posted them.

I do agree that many many posts of binaries should be discouraged, but
I don't we have that many on here...

I don't know about anybody else and I would not speak for anyone else
but I really get tired of people who try to tell me what I can and
cannot read, look at or post. If I see something that bothers me then
I just don't look at it. It is that simple. I don't waste space
telling everybody what to post or what they shoule read.
The last time I checked this was still America and I will read, look
at, post anything I want. If anybody doesn't like it, just don't look.
Short of yelling, "FIRE" in a crowded theater, that is my right. So if
what you see in any newsgroup bothers you, look for the off switch on
your computer, not your email switch so you can run your mouth and try
to smother everybodies 1st Amendment Rights.

The amazing thing about the net is that no one owns it and
nobody regulates it... except for the users themselves. Most
users use common sense as to what to post or write to a given
newsgroup and some are sadly lacking in that area. As to
posting car.pcx files, I could give a rats' ass one way or the
other. What bugs me is attitudes such as the above.
To use an analogy, if a good newsgroup is like a nice
drinking trough full of tastey clean water and the users are
horses, then it never fails that some pig who's been joyfully
wallowing his face in his on shit will eventually come along
and stick his face in that water trough to slobber and drink...
thus spoiling and polluting it for the majority.

Yes, the swine has a God-given right to act like a pig. It
wouldn't be kind of us to smother his "rights".

So two wrongs make a right? Should I start posting masses of "Get rich

Your inexperience is showing here. There are people who have to
download (often with slow modems) all the newsgroups they want
to read *before* they can start a newsreader to select what they want
to read in those newsgroups.

[snipped rest of post which also confuses reading with downloading.]

Good for you. I'm glad someone has to time to scan everything posted to
Usenet.

|> The last time I checked this was still America

Funny, last time I checked this was still Switzerland. What? Oh, you're
ina  different country from me. You mean there are people on the net
outside of Switzerland. Wow, you learn new things every day.

I'm sure you're service providers, local and government law enforcement
agencies, etc., might have different ideas.

|> If anybody doesn't like it, just don't look.

Interesting metaphor. Have you considered this in relation to posting
inappropriate material to a newsgroup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but (1) the USA 1st Amendment simply prevents
"government" from enacting laws that would prevent freedom of speech.
It says nothing about what others might do. Also, I believe that the
amendment saying that everyone in the world must follow US law has not
yet passed :-).
