Oh, puh-LEEZE.

By invoking your "Constitutional right" to post binaries, aren't you
ALSO invoking everyone else's right to flame you until your mailbox
overloads?

Your problem, along with a lot of other Americans on the 'Net, is that
you fail to realize that:

A) Not everyone uses the same 'Net setup you do.
B) This is NOT America, this is the Internet.  There is a substantial
difference.
C) The Internet isn't your personal BBS system.
D) The world does not, in fact, revolve around you.
E) Your flame against wasting space is wasting space.  Interesting
paradox, no?

What is so wrong with being courteous to other people?  Oh, I forget
-- there's no amendment to the Constitution that demands courtesy, so
you don't have any.

I agree 100% .  I would perfer not to sit and d/l sometimes up to 5 and 6
.pcx when I check the group.  I d/l all the post and I'm really not
interested in .pcx files.  If I want a .pcx or a car set I go to the
proper place for it.  No offense meant but I'm not interested in 99.9% of
the .pcx's loaded to the newsgroup.

I don't have this problem, but I know many people do.  Why don't you just
send the cars to a page like ours, or post an article to this newsgroup
saying that you made a car, and to e-mail you if they're interested.

And also, if you post a car in this newsgroup, Leo and Shannon's Car Page
will not get it.  I use Netscape to read newsgroups, and it can't copy
uuencoded files.

I agree with creating a seperate nesgroup for binaries but until that
is done this is where they belong.  for those of you who don't think
they do, does a post about rl spd limits belong on a simulator newsgrp?
i'd rather not have to weed two pages of that out every time i log
on.  any news reader will allow you to choose what you actually
download.  most will download a file containg subject, size, and
poster but they do not download all of the articles.  even old unix
newsreaders let you browse before you download.  i heve a limited
connect time and have never had any problem getting everything done
that i want to...  most newsreaders can be set to weed out subjects
containg keywords anyway.  just eliminate all posts with pcx in the
subject and no more skipping through them...

Myself, I prefer to download just headers. log off, mark the article
bodies I want to retrieve, and then log back in and download them.
That saves alot of internet time for those who don't have unlimited...

Oh for ****'s sake. Luckily this sort of arrogance crops up
infrequently, but what gives you the idea that **I** am in America?
Get a grip. Better yet, get an atlas and a map of the Internet.

And what do I do if I don't HAVE an option but to look at the stupid
file? Ie. download all messages only: no selective headers/bodies
downloading. If there were a binaries/messages group then I COULD
choose to ignore your binary messages.

The last time I swore at some twally for ignoring the larger portion
of the world outside their back yard, they were also in America.

Annoyed, in England (that's in Europe BTW).

I honestly don't understand what the problem is with posting them
HERE.  It's not like this group gets 200+ messages a day?  Plus don't
MOST news readers just download the HEADERS?  (mine does)  So you
don't waste time getting the whole file anyway.

: : I would appreciate and I am sure many others also if everyone would
: : stop posting pcx files of their cars.  This is not a binaries group it
: : is a newsgroup for messages.

: Here is the quick and dirty approach to solving this problem:
: There already exists a group alt.binaries.games
: Post your pcx files in the above group
: Post an announcement in this group alerting us to the fact that there is
: a file in alt.binaries.games (remember to mention the subject line).

Okay, for a test here are 3 files for which I have done the above.  If
this works, can't we all just agree to give it a try?

Subject: ICR2: Homage to Grateful Dead car (ind95.zip)
        Newsgroups: alt.binaries.games

Subject: NASCAR: Homage to Tim Richmond (nasc94.zip)
        Newsgroups: alt.binaries.games

        Subject: ICR2: Paintkit Patch (patchpkt.com)
        Newsgroups: alt.binaries.games

netscape can save .uue files by using the 'save as' command under
'file'.  click the uue as if you were going to read it and when it
starts loading (or whenever it is on your screan) save it as the file.
in the first line of the uue.  i've used this with great results, much
better than trying to copy out all lines of text to a blank text file.

I know that this has caused quite a bit of heated conversation, but. . .

Here is the quick and dirty approach to solving this problem:

There already exists a group alt.binaries.games

Post your pcx files in the above group

Post an announcement in this group alerting us to the fact that there is

The argument is not whether people should post them; the argument is do they
belong here or do they deserve their own newsgroup.
