LWFF (Taiwan) Pedal Hardware Question

by Joachim B?ddeke » Wed, 19 Sep 2001 20:56:40

Hi all,

I am using the old (cable-driven) LWFF Wheel. My wheel is connected via the
serial to USB adaptor to the USB port.

Because of the way too short pedal travel of gas and brake i would like to
rewire my old Thrustmaster T2 pedals into the LWFF stuff.
Seems to be really simple.

But:
After showing my electronics dealer the pots of both pedal sets (to get
electronic parameters of the LWFF pot with the housing of the T2 pots), he
tested the LWFF pot and thinks this seems to be a logarithmic one. At first,
I insisted, it should be linear.
But is that correct?
Concerning the low scale usage of the Wingman pedals, could it be that only
a small scale of a logarithmic pot is used and afterwards some calculations
are applied (maybe the sensitivity setting of the wingman software)?

I do not want to destroy the LWFF electronics(*) with wrong pots, so what
parameters should the pots have? Is there a risk of destroying the wheel
with wrong pots (too much or too less resistance)?

Maybe silly questions for the hardware department, but i am a software
engineer ;-).
i only know basics about voltage and ohms, although i am able to solder
cables ;-).

Question in short: ;-)
what kind of pots (electronically) do i need to use for pedals, assuming i
allow greater pedal travel.

Thanks in advance,

Joachim Boeddeker

(*) Because the original LWFF is the best wheel ever produced from my point
of view, and is sadly no longer produced.

I have T2 pedals hooked up to my LWFF, all I did was take the wires of
the LWFF pots and them put them on the pots of the T2 pedals.

All you need to do is remember how they went in the LWFF pedals (which
isnt that hard) and hook them up exactly as they were in the LWFF
pedals.

Because you cant calibrate them properly with the wingman software I
just use Thrustmaster ProPanel, which will have an option to calibrate
them (you might have to calibrate them again if you switch to single
axis and vice versa).

I did this mod pretty much as soon as I got the LWFF and it has been
working ever since. The pots do not need to be the same because you
can just relcalibrate with ProPanel.

Thanks Kirk,

as always stupid me didn't look in the best direction.

A search of the egroup messages revealed the info
necessary.

Thanks,

Thanks Jaker,

But:

How do you calibrate via ProPanel, if the pedals are connected
to the LWFF?

With ProPanel you calibrate all axi of the LWFF, meaning you have to
calibrate the steering, brakes and accelerator.

You just highlight LWFF or whatever it happens to be called at the
time (probably on ID 1) and then just press calibrate.

Aha...

seems to be a new version.

The last time i've seen the Thrustmaster ProPanel,
it was just a simple Dos-Tool, polling the Gameport.

Joachim.
