LWFF and CH pedals?

by keit » Wed, 26 May 1999 04:00:00

I took the plunge and bought the CH Pedals to use in place of the
pedals on the Logitech Wingman FF. Has anyone tried this combination,
with LWFF on USB and CH on gameport? If so, what gameport driver do
you use in Windows 98 for the CH Pedals? Just wondering if it makes
more sense to rewire the CH Pedals to the Logitech and just have a
single USB connection, or try to set up two game controllers and
select the appropriate axis in GPL. I am leaning towards having both a
USB and gameport connection, and could then use the Logitech gas pedal
as a clutch :)

Thanks for any advice,
Keith.

Keith.

If you get around doing that, could you let me know how you did it at

use my old Thrustmaster T2 pedals .

I just can't get used to the Logi pedals.  My times are down about 1 to
1.5seconds at Monza, for instance, as I keep locking the wheels.

I've changed the springs but I still cannot brake as deep into the corners
has with the old T2 pedals, which had much better travel.

Yep, I'm doing it and it works great!

Gameport Driver? I just got them hooked up with my joystick and got
the box checked that says rudder pedals attached.

I might be wrong about this but I dont think you can rewire them with
the Formula Force only the regular Wingman Formula with out FF.
And besides I still like to using  my joystick/rudder pedal
combination when I'm playing with my flightsims.

Thats what I'm doing.

Hmm.....I Never thought about that! Might have to try it!  I don't
know though I just layed them out that way and it just don't feel
right besides I race with one foot on the gas and the other on the
brake and moving my feet all around would probally***me up! And
besides that I harldy ever use the cluch anyway except when taking off
from the starting line in a race. i think it'easier just using a
button on the wheel.

One thing to be sure of in the advanced section of the Game
Controllers menu in Win 98  make sure you got your joystick/rudder
pedals set up on Controller ID #1 and your LWFF set up on controller
ID #2. It wont work the other way around or at least for me it wont.
And one other thing I've noticed is that if you launch the Logitech
Wingman Profiller (to set up your buttons for GPL) it will switch your
controller ID's around. You got to set up your buttons inside GPL
otherwise it won't work.

Using a third pedal for clutch isn't very sensible. You'll not be able to
perform a good start at some of the down/uphill starting grids. All because
of the fact that the braking and gas pedal are too far apart. In a real
racing car you have to keep your foot lightly on the brakes and rev the
engine by heel and toeing. With my pedal set that's not possible. So for GPL
I prefer a button on the wheel. Although maybe it's worth a try for flat
starting grids. It will probably improve the starts big time.

Yup, definetly wrong.  You can rewire them with the Wingman Forumla Force.
Need to to be able to use the pedals in some games, but its not the best
solution if you are using them as rudder pedals too. :)

Mms..what?  Sure it does.  GPL doesn't seem to really care which controller
the various devices are on.  At least not that I've ever noticed.  Perhaps
there is some issue with the pedals or with the gameport on the soundcard.

In GPL this is incorrect.

As long as you have the brake on when you put it in gear the car will
not move unless you step on the gas.
You can put the clutch in and rev it to your heart's content.

You must have misunderstood me, when you're starting at Spa for example the
car will definitely start rolling if you don't use the brakes.

No I didn't.  Agreed, when you go to Spa, you must have your brakes on
or you will start rolling.  Let the brakes go and you won't roll.
If you hit  the green button without having the brakes applied you will
roll, but once you put the brakes on and then off, the car will not
roll.

You're so sure you're probably right, I really thought you'd kept on
rolling. Well then there's no problem at all.

When at Spa, I only have to tap the brake once and it will stay on the
brake, even if I let the brake go. This behavior stops when I step on
the gas, or when I press Ctrl-T (reset dial).
Perhaps an analog clutch behaves differently from a digital clutch
with regards to this auto-brake behavior.
