Hi folks!
I never ever played any Online-Games before, but now we have that glorious
GPL and I've gotta try this with other racers on the Web.
As I know nothing about the subject I'd appreciate any hints on how to find
good and FAIR Racing-Leagues (No crashing idiots or people who don't make
room even though they're apparently slow) as well as tips about
connection-speed (I live in Germany).
Also:
-What does VROC mean?
-I read about a professional League but can't find that article anymore

Many thanx in advanz!
Markus

Boy that would be neat, but I have not personally found it yet.

IGPS has not experienced ANY of that kind of stuff. If they even mess
around in practice, they're booted out.  Each race is password protected
to keep out the strays.

IGPS currently has 5 spots open.  I originally limited signup to 15
people, but we have had about 1/3 no shows so far for each event.

We are currently seeking 5 drivers to fill the available field to 20.
You will automatically be given 100 points for each of the two races
you've missed (Mexico and Nurburgring).

Heads-up - this is a chassis-restricted league in that we only allow 4 of
any chassis to be claimed.  The only chassis that are not available at
this time are the Eagle and the Coventry.  Chassis are awarded in the
order a driver's application shows up in my mail reader.  First come,
first served.

If you're interested in racing with a (generally) clean group of drivers
in a controlled environment, go to the following URL to find out more
about the league and how to join:

        http://members.home.net/jms1/igps.html

The page defaults to initially showing the News page.  Click the "Rules"
link and then the "Home" link in the black frame at the top of the
browser window BEFORE submitting your application.  Improperly formatted
applications will be rejected (if you can't comprehend what you read or
follow simple instructions, I don't want you racing in my league).

Go to
http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc/
That is VROC. Be sure to read all info before you race. And do all the tweaks
to your DUN. That makes all the difference. But after that it is fairly simple
to race online.

VROC is the only real on-line racing option for GPL at the moment,
maybe other racing sites will appear over time though?

To race at VROC you will need to have GPL (obviously), Netscape
(version 4.5 preferred as support for older versions may not be
available at VROC for much longer?).

I recommend visiting the VROC site and d/l'ing and reading the FAQ
pages, (especially helpful are the FAQ's on setting up DUN for
on-line *** and setting up GPL for on-ling racing) and you will
also need a file called core.ini (which is available from the VROC
site also) which you place in your GPL directory.

Virtual On-line Racing Community. The VROC site is currently
specifically for GPL only though.

Hope to see you on-line soon....

That would be VORC.  Actually, it stands for Virtual Racers' Online
Connection.

I wouldn't make the mistake of expecting online racing to be free
of crashes and driver who make mistakes. I was in a Spa  race last
night that had no finishers because the entire grid crashed out. There
is nothing more annoying than someone who is new to VROC, ***ing and
name calling because he gets caught in a crash. More often than not
it's because they get rammed in a corner because they are so much
slower than the other drivers. It's these same people who kick their
Ferrari sideways at the start and take out half the field. No one is
out to intentionally crash anyone.  As for people making room , the
more experienced drivers will do this and the less experienced  make
predictable errors that make them easy to overtake.
I hope you join us on VROC , just be patient with the other drivers.
VROC is a great community with good fellowship among it's users. Thank
you for  let me use your post to highlight this sometimes forgotten
point.

Hey David, it was *very* late when I wrote that message, and oops, I
got it wrong!

But it is actually Virtual Racers On-line *Community*.......(I think?)

Nope - it's Connection.  I'm looking at the web page as I type this.
