Ah... so that's why you US guys drive those SUV's... paved road is getting
scarce. ;-)

Sorry for the jab, but it cracks me up hearing you guys *** about gas
prices while the average European pays the same for a litre as you guys for
a gallon.

I realize that you guys pay WAY too much for gas, and you have my sympathy.<g>
But, you've been paying those prices for how long?  Maybe you've gotten used to
it?  If something you purchased regularly quickly went up in price by more than
30%, you'd *** too... :)

Well, here where I live in Canada, we're at 80 cents a litre...I drive a
shitty ford tempo and it takes over $35 to fill the damn thing up...

Poor bloke. A whole 80 cents a litre - must be unbearable. Over here in
Blighty, it's 80 *pence* a litre (getting on for four quid a gallon),
so I can't have too much sympathy...

And why has Ford nicked the Tempo name? It's a Fiat over here, IIRC.

Sorry for the jab, but it cracks me up hearing you commuters *** about gas
prices -while I drive for a living and buy roughly 80-90 gallons of gas per
week.
I'm sure you commuters can make up your 2 bucks a week somewhere else, but
its taking alot of food off of my table.

Rik,

Youn like me driving sometimes over a 1000 miles in a week easy.  Also all
the guys in Europe have been getting screwed for years on gas by their
government.

Around here in the Netherlands, for every guilder that goes to the oil
company, 2 guilders go to the state. That's 200% tax!! (No THAT's
profiteering <G> )

As someone was kind enough to point out to me in another NG, the reason
why it's so expensive over here is *because* we buy gas in litters
instead of gallons, *everyone* know it's cheaper to buy stuff in large
amounts......

Personally, I think it was just a simple error in converting from imperial
to metric.  If it can happen to the Mars Voyager team, it can happen to
anyone.  No one has the courage to correct the mistake now, so we continue
to pay too much for our petrol here in Europe!

Certainly it has nothing to do with post-war taxation policies for
rebuilding shattered countries etc. etc...

Lol.... you're right!! If I buy 50 pairs of socks I get a discount, but I if
I buy 50 litres of gas the price stays the same... we're beying screwed!!

I have traveled in Europe, and have paid $3 a gallon for gas, so I
know that the U.S. has been lucky for having such cheap gas prices
over the years.
BTW, the lowest gas ever got here in the upstate of SC two years ago
was 68 cents!!!  It's now $1.35, which is cheaper than the national
average.

Have we really just been so lucky all these years, and should be ever so
grateful to the powers that be, or do the Europeans have even more of a
right to *** for getting Ripped Off by Big Oil worse than we are?  :-)
I think it's a matter of how you view it.  Nobody owes the Oil
Companies these *** profit margins, American or European.
