Act Labs force feedback problem with GPL

by Mark Balo » Fri, 08 Jun 2001 07:20:21

Hello,

I have a problem with my force feedback in GPL. I used the Force RS
driver 1.23 and everything worked fine. Upgraded to 2.1 and now
everytime I steer to the left (high speed corners like corner 2, 4 and
7 at Silverstone) I get spikes in my force feedback. Tried different
setups, but nothing works.

Can't go back to 1.23 because my new system crashes with those drivers
(I upgraded to an AMD 1200Mhz).

Is this a known problem?

I use these settings:
In the Force RS driver (under Control Panel/Game Controllers), I have
the following settings:

Overall Device Gain: 100%
Spring Gain: 100%
Damper Gain: 0%
Default Spring: Always On is Unchecked

In GPL's core.ini, I used these settings:

force_feedback_damping = 2.000000   ; damping coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.020000   ; latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 200.000000    ; torque = max device force

steering ratio: 10 to 1

Cheers,
Mark

Did you check that "Poll with Interupts Enabled" is unchecked?  Just a
shot in the dark, but I hope to go from a 1gig Duron to 1 3+ Tbird
soon and was womdering what problems I might expect.

I also have had the same problem in GPL.  I have an old serial Force
RS..  Which do you have?

It is imposible to play with thease drivers.  How can they release
these drivers with such a big bug.  GPL is they only sim I even play..
GPL is the reason I got the Force RS..

I went back to v1.23 after about 2mins.

My guess is that these drivers work fine on the USB version.  Can
someone confirm that these drivers work right with GPL?

Thanks,
Noel

This may be a stupid question but I did not know GPL has FF ability. Can
someone please tell me how to set up my act labs RS wheel to work with GPL?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, but I read this a long time ago..  it is referancing the 1.23
drivers.  Version 1.23 works fine for me (that is the version I went
back to), it is version 2.1 that is the problem.

Thanks,
Noel

Act Labs force feedback problem with GPL

I fixed it finally!!

First I ran CleanFRS.exe.  Then I ran regedit and searched for "force
rs" and deleted any key that way found.  I did the same thing again
but searching for "Immersion".

Than go to "c:\windows\system\directx\dinput" and delete the file
called act_rs.png.  You should also see some files that look like
act*.ini (like act094.ini).

Then do a file search in the windows dir for the files on this list
and delete any of them you find:

immcheck.exe
act_wenu.inf
act_w.bmp
act_wenu.cat
ImmPID.dll
ImHidUsb.sys
imm_enu.dll
immdx5.dll
ImmCpl.dll
immcheck.VxD
fxpass.sys
immdev.VxD
Iforce.cpl
IFORCE.HLP
IFORCE2.dll
IFSplash.exe
immser.VxD
immvjoy.VxD
list.txt
IFC21.dll
ImmSplsh.exe
ImmSplsh.cpl
TSense.hlp
imm_spa.dll
immstick.ifr
IMMUSB.VXD
immwheel.ifr

I know this sounds like a lot of work but it is the only way to truly
remove every trace of the drivers.

Once you have gone through all of these steps, download the Raw 2.1
ForceRS drivers, and install them exactly like the directions in the
readme say.

This worked for me. :)

Good Luck,
Noel
