Act Labs Force RS - no curve feedback?

Act Labs Force RS - no curve feedback?

by Bria » Wed, 16 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Just got my FRS working.  Was I wrong for thinking it should send
feedback for the curves in the road?  Or giving pressure and having to
forcefully hold against it to stay in a turn?    I get no feedback for
curves at all, unless I make a really wild quick turn, and I get a
very quick jerk in the opposite direction.   Mainly all I feel are
uneven road surfaces or crashes.  This is in NFS3/4, and Nascar 3.
All the sliders are at 100% except the last one at 13%  (all default).
I'm using the AL 123 drivers and DX7a.
A little disappointed here.

In NFS3/4 you will get absolutely zero feedback except for bumps and
jerks, as you said.  It has a very poor FF model.  In N3 or NL you will
get a little more, mostly on road courses, but not much unless you are
either loose or pushing badly.  This is all because of the sim
programming, not the wheel.  For some really good force feedback pick
up Grand Prix Legends and Rally Championship 2000.  The FF in GPL is
totally unmatched by anything else - you can customize the forces to
match your perception of what's right.  In RC2000 you can turn up the
FF so much that it will rattle your desktop - with the banks and
ditches and rough roads, you will feel it all plus feel the car
slipping, sliding, and turning.

Also, try turning your spring effects in the ACT LABS control panel
down to a very low percentage - that way it won't perhaps override
forces from a sim.

In Nascar 3, try adding the following lines to your N3.INI file:

FORCE_SCALE_PERCENT 200
FORCE_DAMPING_PERCENT 30

Also, in the wheel's driver properties, set "map y forces to x axis"
active. It can help a bit. Also, make sure the wheel is controller
ID#1.

I like it...

Act Labs Force RS - no curve feedback?

I have the same problem. Control panel force is set to 100% damper and
spring are on 0. return spring is at 50. In N3 ini file I have 200 and 0.
And still it just doesn't feel right.  Hope to try GPL soon.
