GPL and IPX: Help!

by Faytov » Sat, 21 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I was wondering if I could borrow the brains of some r.a.s. computer
specialists to help me set up a peer-to-peer network for IPX *** with GPL.

For starters, I just bought 2 Netgear 10-BaseT cards and a Netgear 6-port
10-BaseT hub thinking this would be a breeze using the built in Win95
networking protocols.  I had it working so that the 2 computers could share
files and the like but when I start GPL/multiplayer, I get no IPX option.  So,
I realized that the IPX protocol must not be the one being used.  After some
trial and error, I found out that it must be using NetBEUI since after removing
that protocol in the network settings I could no longer see the other computer.
 I was wondering if someone could tell me how to force my setup to use IPX or
if I just wasted a bunch of money because it's not possible with a peer-to-peer
network.

My network configuration window looks like this on both computers:
-Client for Microsoft Networks
-NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
-Dial-Up Adapter
-IPX/SPX compatible protocol ->FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
-TCP/IP->FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
-TCP/IP->Dial-Up Adapter
-File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks

As you can see, I removed the IPX binding for the Dial-Up Adapter because it
caused a conflict on startup (error #254).  Anybody know what this is and why
IPX can't be bound to both Adapters?  The reason this concerns me is that I was
hoping to be able to have someone dial up from the outside using IPX (had
success with this using F1RS) and join in a game on my peer-to-peer network (is
this possible?).  Anyway, sorry for the long message and thanks in advance for
any help!

In control panel, network, check the properties tab for your ipx
protocol, and make sure the bindings are correct (eg; the boxes are
ticked)
