AMD K6?

AMD K6?

This may have been covered before, if so I apologize, it wasn't a
concern of mine until today (see the BUYER BEWARE post for an
explanation of that one!).  I've been told by several computer shops
that the AMD K6 processor is a very good value, and even clocks faster
than comparable Intel Pentiums.  Anyone K6 users care to comment?  Also,
is there K6 compatibility problems among the more popular sims out?  Is
there anything negative or good about a K6 I need to know about?  Please
advise.  You see, I've got to start all over learning what I want my
next machine to have.  Thanks for your input... and your patience.

God Bless,

Andre

Lots of people ask these types of questions. Is the K-6 compatible? Will it
work for me?The answer is yes.I have never had any problems with my
K-6...Sims,Flight sims,Action games,You name it,And Ive played it on my
K-6.Is it fast?Hell yeah its fast.Ive seen games on Pentium II's that were
flying along at the highest possible frame rate.I though"Damn I wish my
P166 was that fast".Then I went out and bought a K-6 233.Well my wish came
true in a way.Bottom line.....The K-6 is an awsome processor,And you can
find 233mhz chips if you look around for 330$I highly recomend it over
Intel.Even though the FPU isnt as fast(Its actually claimed to be
faster,But since most games take advantage of Intels piplined FPU)It still
cant be beat in price vs quality.

AMD K6?

Lonnie,

        I have just bought a K6 233 that I researched for a while before
getting.  I am greatly pleased with every game that I've run it with
(Nascar II, Indycar II, Red Alert, Quake, LinksLS 98, MechWarrior II
amongst others...)  No compatibility problems at all.  Speed is
spectacular.  I also bought an Abit IT5H board to go with it.  I have
underclocked it to 225mhz with a 75mhz bus speed and also have run it at
the standard 233mhz with a 66mhz bus speed.  Everything (including Grand
Prix II) can run with full graphics on without any type of hesitation.
I did have to use the -4 option under Nascar II (I run the Rendition
version), but other than getting faster, I didn't notice any visual
differences.  Your motherboard can be just as important as your CPU, so
shop around and do your homework!!!  Check out http://sysdoc.pair.com
for just about everything you'd ever want to know about hardware.

I own a K6-200 and I have had no compatibility problems with any programs.
The ONLY problem with the K6 is the fact that it does not have a pipelined
fpu (Pentiums do and Quake and a few other programs take advantage of the
pipeleined fpu).  I highly recommend this cpu.

I have to agree, I bought a K6 200 and have overclocked it to 225 (and
saved myself a bit of money too!!!!) and it runs great.
No compatability problems, it runs all my games great, and all my other
software great too, win95 flies too.

MOTORACER runs fantastic, even without a 3Dfx card? as does GP2 & AH64D
Apache, RAC Rally is awesome, screamer 2 is great.

GET A K6 NOW.......DO IT.

I gotta agree with Aaron. I have a k6-233 and i run all sim racing games
with all graphics on. this thing flies!  I have an ASUS TX97-X
motherboard with 64MB 10NS SDRAM.  I would highly recommend the k6 to
anyone.  I paid $315 for mine, and i thought that was cheap.
