Is force feedback worth the difference?

I am about to buy a Logitech Momo wheel and I noticed that there is
about $12 difference between the regular and force feedback wheels.
Is it worth paying the extra money for the force feedback?  I've never
really been impressed with the rumble feature on gamepads so will I be
impressed or should I just save the money?

yes! If you buy Momo, only get the "Momo Force".

It could not be more different than the rumble of game pads.  Rumbling has
no relationship to the physics of the game (unlike good FF).  The FF, when
properly coded in the game, gives you another layer of realism with respect
to grip, weight shift and road feel.  It's not perfect but it's very good in
the best games.  I have a TSW 2 wheel sitting in the closet because I won't
give up the superb FF of my MOMO Force (leather wrapped) in GPL, F1 2002
(GTR 2002), and Nascar 2003.  It's well worth the $12.

Is there more than one kind of Momo force feedback wheel?  I have seen
only 2 kinds.  The one with force feedback and the one without.  The
one without is about $12 cheaper.  Here is the wheel that I am talking
about:

Is that the right one?  Is that the best price on the net for that
wheel?

Thanks,

Keith

It will be the best $12 you've ever spent.

I believe there are actually two MOMO wheels with FF.  The MOMO Force has a
leather wrapped wheel, with just paddle shifters.  Then there's the MOMO
Racing with FF, plastic wheel, paddle shifters and also has a shifter knob.
The MOMO Racing is quite a bit cheaper, but I've seen some posts about some
sort of problem with the paddle shifters after some use.

I bought my MOMO Force here http://www.3btech.net/logmomforfee.html for
$103, delivered.

The rumble feature on joypads is nothing like real force-feedback in a
wheel.

Yes, it's worth it.

And in a game like Nascar Racing that accurately models the 'pull to the
right' on the straights, you get real tired with a non force-feedback wheel
fast because you're always fighting the centering spring.

Well, the picture is for the ORIGINAL Momo force-feedback wheel, but you
have to watch yourself.  A LOT of places have been using that picture for
the newer, much cheaper Momo Force and I've heard of a lot of people buying
$99 wheels and getting the cheap one.

The original Momo still lists for $199, but can be found cheaper (but not
$100 cheaper for a brand-new-in-box wheel).

The new, cheaper one lists for $99, and you can definitely get it cheaper.

My bet is that they are selling the new, cheaper one but are using the older
expensive one's picture, which would be not nice.

You can really buy a new-in-box original Momo for $100 now?  Daaaammmnnnn!.

I was going to sell my basically unused one, but it's probably not worth it
to sell it now.

Is force feedback worth the difference?

Yes, when the sim is written correctly it should produce great feedback
effects that give you a sense of what the car is doing.  It shouldn't be
much of a jump from decent physics code to decent force-feedback, as the
force generated by the tyres can be fed back to the wheel.

All the best,
Ash

The list price on the MOMO Force is $139 now. You can get a new one
delivered for $102. A factory refurbished one is $89. Also, the original
LWFF serial is available for $49 (refurbished) and a usb adaptor would cost
another $24 if someone requires it for their OS.
A new MOMO Racing is available for $69. I don't think there is a MOMO non-FF
at all.

So, how much do you want for yours, Larry?
