Does anyone know if it is possible to play Microprose GP1 in windows 95,
I keep getting booted after the intro. Please help.
Thank You
Gary
The best deal going on Ten is their VIP plan, 3 months for 39.95. Their
regular rate is 19.95 per month. This is all unlimited use. The VIP plan is
like getting a month free. You can currently race Nascar2 on Ten in either
pick up races or user created league races. The Nros, sanctioned by Nascar,
has not started up yet, nor has the pricing for it been announced by
Nascar.

I believe the best deal is 3 months (unlimited) for $39.99! Pretty
awesome, IMHO; especially, if you ever payed long distance to play Hawaii!

It runs perfectly well for me under Windows 95, and asking how it
could be expected to run is ludicrous, it may be a matter of openning
a dos box but it certainly runs :)

Gary
Here's what often works for me when I have a DOS game that's a bit sticky
about running under Windows 95:
Create a Shortcut to the game's executable file (put it on your desktop or
in your Start Menu - some place handy). Right click on the shortcut and
select the Properties command. You will get a multi-tabbed Win95 dialogue
box where you can configure how the game runs.
You have two basic options: run the game in a DOS Session under Win95, or
reboot into pure DOS (the system will reboot back to Win95 when you exit
the game). The reboot option is found on the Program Tab by clicking the
Advanced button (this will also let you type custom Autoexec.bat and
Config.sys files for the DOS session - don't forget to include any mouse
drivers, etc you may need as you will be rebooting into pure DOS with none
of the usual Win95 services available).
I have found a full reboot is usually unnecessary, however, as with enough
tweaking even finicky games can can be persuaded to run under Win95. The
most important thing is to go to the Memory Tab and check the "Protected"
option. Most of the other options are self explanatory, and the dialogue
box has good help available by clicking the Question Mark Button.\
Good Luck!

I don't remember any special problems. Should work.

You could try this :
- Open Windows Explorer (not maximized).
- Drag gp.exe to the desktop.
This will create a link to GP1.
- Close Explorer again.
- Right-click on the link, and select properties.
- Select the Program-tab.
- Check the checkbox that says something like 'Close window at exit'
(I'm using the Dutch version, so I have to imagin what the English
version says, but since there's only one checkbox here..).
- Select the advanced-button.
- Check the box 'MSDOS mode'.
- Uncheck the box 'warn before entering MSDOS mode'.
- Select 'Use current MSDOS configuration'.
- Click all OK-buttons.
When you now click the link to GP1, Windows will shut itself down,
leaving the complete box for GP1. After exiting GP1, Windows will
restart itself.
