to patch it now or to wait for the next one?
Thanks

Thanks

apparently the 2nd patch will be out shortly...so if you have no issues
with the unpatched version, stay with it...Eventually Papyrus usually limits
online participation to only the newest version. However, because of some
of the problems with the first patch, they have allowed the retail and the
patched exe's to log onto Sierra servers. This is a rarity so don't expect
it to continue once the 2nd patch is released.

Both the OpenGL and D3D Rasterizers are busted in the patch.
This was not a good release :(

It's very repeatable.
I my case, at C***te Night during a testing session, it will crash NR2002
hard in the middle of turns 3 and 4.
Of course it happens at all the other tracks too, but I just happen to be
working out my NC***te setup at the time.
It feels like a lockup at first, but if you have a lot of RAM it's because
Windows XP is dumping the RAM to the hard drive. Eventually, the screen
clears and you see the "Send Error Report" Dialog Box.
The problem occured under both Windows XP Home and Windows 2000 Pro (both
brand new fresh installs). In fact trying to fix this was the main reason
for all the clean installs. Spent an entire weekend on it!
Here's my system config in case it helps:
Hardware
----------
ABIT KG7 Standard Main Board, BIOS 5e.
512MB Crucial RAM (two 256k sticks).
VisionTek Ti500 Video Card running in AGP 2X Mode (VisionTek release 28.32
Drivers - NO aftermarket patches or mods).
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card (Latest Release Drivers, 4161s).
Intel InBusiness 10/100 NIC Card (WinXP supplied Drivers).
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 7200 RPM ATA/133 80GB Hard Drive.
Pioneer 106s Slot-Loading 16x DVD Drive (such a wonderful creature).
TDK 321040B CDRW Drive
Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2060u 22" Monitor (latest Mistubishi INF installed).
Floppy Drive (duh!).
Epson Stylus Photo 1270 Printer.
Dymo LabelWriter 330 Turbo (No drivers installed, disabled in device
manager).
Visioneer OneTouch 8600 Scanner (No drivers installed, disabled in device
manager).
Microsoft SideWinder MSFFW (USB - 4.0 Software).
Software
---------
Windows XP Home (all critical and most recommeded patches installed from
Windows Update).
Nascar Racing 2002
NR2002 Latest Patch.
NO other software installed.

I'm re-posting here in it's complete form.

Several of us here can't run it. NR2002 crashes out. I've read others
complain about this.
It's very repeatable.

mode).
Dymo LabelWriter 330 Turbo (No drivers installed, disabled in device
manager).
Visioneer OneTouch 8600 Scanner (No drivers installed, disabled in device
manager).
Microsoft SideWinder MSFFW (USB - 4.0 Software).
Klipsh ProMedia 5.1 Speaker Set.
Software
---------
Windows XP Home (all critical and most recommeded patches installed from
Windows Update).
Nascar Racing 2002
NR2002 Latest Patch.
PowerToys XP TweakUI component.
PowerToys XP "CMD Line From Here" component.
NO other software installed.
Details
-------
The system is not overclocked in any way.
There are no modification utilities attached to, nor have changed, the
standard factory VisionTek 28.32 Video Drivers.
The Dymo Printer and Visioneer Scanner do not have drivers installed and are
disabled in the Device Manager.
On this boot partition, I do not use the Logitech Mouseworks or iTouch
software. I use the basic system-supplied drivers to keep the system clean.
I have several different WinXP boot partitions on my drive. One for General
Home/Office applications. One for *** only that has almost NO extra
software installed. Not even a Virus Checker. And finally an emergency
boot partition with a basic system on it for troubleshooting and recovery.
The *** XP partition has 35GB assigned so it has plenty of room.
Game Configuration
--------------------
At the time the crashes were occuring, I was set for OpenGL at 16 bit.
1280X960.
All graphics options set to high or all. Draw-ahead set to 100.
Anistropic filtering disabled.
FSAA disabled in the driver option panel.
No V-Sync in OpenGL driver option panel.
Transfer mode set to default.
Game installed in default directory.
Game played with CD in drive. No imaging/mounting software used or other
patches.
I also had a problem with Frame Rates in the D3D version (as reported on the
WON startup page), and resolved that as recommened by copying the old D3D
DLL from the CD into the game folder.
If you need anything else, let me know!
Thanks :)

Eventually, the screen will clear and you will see the standard Microsoft
"Do you want to send us data" crash dialog.
