NASCAR Revolution from EA sports

Hi! Just saw the following web site... It's about a new Nascar game that
will be sold by EA sports! Graphics look very good. There's a file to be
downloaded which illustrates the sound used in the game. Sounds
promising! (no pun intended!).

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

also, there's a downloadable demo (29 meg) from www.avault.com. The
short cut did not work, though, so I was unable to download that
particular demo! Maybe in the next few days... Somebody finally wants to
compete with Papyrus and the cars look nice! Guess we won't have to wait
for Nascar 2000 in April 1999!

I downloaded the Demo today and I think it is going to be GREAT based on
this Demo; Sierra/Papyrus look out and move over cause EA has joined the
race.
I thought everything, and it's NOT quite finished in demo form, was much
better than any other NASCAR I've tried; Graphics = GREAT; Sound Effects =
BEST ever; Control and Force Feedback = Equal or Better than anything.
Looking forward to February.  New when Sierra bought Papyrus it would be
going down hill quality wise and it did - Thanks EA!

I wouldn't be so positive about it since it's being made by EA, that is if you
want a NASCAR sim.  Don't foget about Mario Andretti and NASCAR '99 which were
made by EA.  Just my opinion

I downloaded the demo last night, and deleted it after couple of short
races.  Have to agree with racer x there.  The game still feels more
like an arcade than a sim game.  With the exception of some of the
graphical and audio elements, there's nothing in the game that makes
me say, "damn, this is better than N2/NR99."  Actually, the demo shows
the game to have a lot of shortcomings, like the lack of mirror in the
in-car view and simple telemetry data like tire temperature.

For sure!  After all, they did release that god-awful Grand
Prix Legends after the Sierra purchase, didn't they?

I agree.  It looks like it may be a great game when its finished.  Simulator
fans won't like it though... I really liked what I saw so far.

Sounds like a bunch of Arcade lovers to me. This game should never be even
mentioned in here since all it is, is NFS3 with WC cars. The game plainly
sucks physics wise, Oh yeah you can go through Turn 1 at c***te full
throttle LOL. After read the press release I got very e***d hoping for
something to be a papy killer but this won't be it. The best think about
this game is the engine sounds and that is it, there is no sense of speed in
this game all the cars seem like they are doing 55 mph. Someone said god
aweful GPL, in my opinion GPL is very great game must don't like it because
they can't drive a true PC racing Sim and you all will have to remember
thast what Papy does, they live the Arcade games to EA.

It's only a demo at this stage for Christ's sake. I thought GPL sucked as a
demo. But the game is much different. I don't see how anyone here can judge
a demo. I always wait for the finished product. Allot of the time physics
and game play are better on the finished product. NASCAR didn't even have a
save game feature when it was released.
That was about the biggest joke i've seen yet in a released game.

Are you nuts? This is in NO WAY competition for Papyrus. This is an
Arcade game through and through. No hint of a serious sim anywhere. It is
a fun demo, but it is *NOT* a sim and I have grown tired of it from just
playing the demo, so I know I won't buy the game.

Hi, I checked out the web page.
Here's part of it, what does it mean?

"EA SPORTS? presents NASCAR? Revolution, the first "raceable" PC racing
simulation. A game where you race against other DRIVERS, not frustrating
"flight simulator" conventions."

I don't get it...

What don't you get? I good driving model can be as hairy to control as
a good flightmodel in a flightsim. It is obvious that EA Sports Nascar
Revolution, has a lightweight driving model, or human only opponents.
Some humans can be much worse than the computer AI :-) I think this
is just their justification for not having a great driving model in the
game.
It reminds me of MSI telling the flightsim NG that the reason Back to
Baghdad did not include wingmen and radio chatter was because
the next version would include multiplay; and humans would be much
better than any computer AI. While this might be true, MSI folded up
the Back to Baghdad tent and went back to doing industrial simulators.
So there will not be a next version and their excuses for lacking normal
features sucks as bad today as it did back then... As this new EA
game will suck no doubt :-)

Ug, what a piece of shit...EA still can't make a serious racing game.

Don't think Papy's gonna lose sleep over this one.
