I have noticed the same thing. I too got my copy yesterday. I think
Nascar Legends appeals less to the casual gamer and most people. Even
people who love N3 will not necessarily buy the game. Maybe we will have
to wait a few more days and hope someone setup a league. I have notice a
"Testsrv" was up tonight and racing was pretty good, except we did not
as many racers as in N3.

I got my copy of NASCAR LEGENDS yesterday and after installing it
and spending a bit of time on some basic setups so as not to embarrass
myself TOO badly, I jumped onto the multiplayer site today.

I am a bit alarmed to see there was only two races held at the
time, with one being a PASSWORDED race, and the other was one with the
setups blocked onto what the host wanted.

No problem with that second, but why aren't there more races
available?

Is it that not that many people have the SIM yet, or that there
is something wrong, and everyone prefers to go racing online with N3??

Hey Don,

I've noticed the same thing.  I've been in about 3 races.  That's it.  Let's
hope that it's because people aren't hosting.

Maybe Sierra/Papyrus will see this as the real reason GPL tanked.
Retro racing is a niche within a niche.
I'm in my 30's and can much more easily appreciate it than the typical
kid, and even I've already had enough of it.

Bring on the modern stuff already.

Wasn't that the lesson learned with GPL? :)

Last night I had about 30 spare minutes - not enough to do any online
racing (I like to finish them) - and just left the connection screen up
for a while to watch for host activity.  During this time there were 2
or 3 hosts that came up.  They would stay up for 5-10 minutes, usually
nobody would join, and they would drop off.  I did see the Testserv up,
too, but only a couple of people joined over the next 10 minutes or
so.  Yes, we need more NL users, obviously!

I think it obviously was.
If N3 considerably outsells NL then I think we can safely say that its not
the physics engine which is putting people off NL (its the same as N3) so
therefore maybe the concept of 1967 F1 cars in Grand Prix Legends was the
culprit for the low sales rather than the advanced physics model. If that is
the case then Ppay can promptly get to wotk on ICR3 / CART2 using the real
physics engine :)

Yes, but...  I think offering a legends "clone" (as in *very*
similar to the N3 parent game) a mere month and a half *after* the
very popular parent game is not the way to go about it.

If they were really trying to generate good sales for NASCAR
Legends, they would have released it first, 2-3 months before NASCAR3,
picking up sales from folks who weren't willing to wait that long for
N3 for their NASCAR fix.

Then again, if the object is to "prove" that these "legends" games
are poor-selling products, Sierra marketing has done their job. :(

OTOH, I do like your conclusion...  :)

If the lesson "obviously was" learned NL would never have made it past
the drawing board. I think these guys (Sierra/Papy) are still
convinced that it was the "difficulty" of the sim that caused it not
to sell.

I agree with what you say though, hopefully when NL does a crash and
burn they will wake up and give up on retro sims then promptly get to
work on ICR3.

If you check Papy's site, LEGENDS server is still in testing mode....

I have to wonder with all the instability in IRL and CART whether Papy
wants to get into that can of worms, or wait till it's all sorted out before
they comit some of their limited resources to ICR3.  Personally even _I_
would be interested in that, tho.

I made some rounds yesterday.  The local Sam's Club store had about 50
copies of N3 and several copies of just about everything Sierra's released
in the past six months--but not one copy of NASCAR Legends was to be found.

The local Best Buy didn't have a copy of NASCAR Legends either.

I strongly suspect it's not because either store was sold out (unless maybe
they didn't have but one copy to begin with).

Had the same problem...kept hitting the local Best Buy and nada.
When they checked their 'puter...there was no listing.   Finally went
to the nearby Fry's and they had about a doz. on the shelf.

The real reason why NL has tanked is because people have finally realized
they've been taken by Papy one too many times.....N2, N99, N3, and now NL.
How many times do people want to pay for the same engine and the same crappy
bugs that have been around for THREE YEARS now!!!!
