mode, but I'd still rather see something happen with a GPL 72, or
Sports Car Legends.
What, honestly, is the legal likelihood of Papy releasing the source
for GPL, or there being some way the programmers could do something
with the engine on thier own time? Several developers have released
the source for some major products already (Doom, Quake, Descent
Freespace).
I mentioned it in passing, but would it really be possible for Dave K
(as one rumor has it) or Grant to develop the GPL core further and
release something independent of Papyrus/Sierra? Like the D3D
renderer (which was a free side-project Grant did on his own). I
worry that Sierra didn't care only because a) it wasn't really a
modification of the core code and b) it couldn't be considered a new
"product". Dave K admitted in an interview that they'd already tested
a version of GPL with downforce - and this was quite a while back.
I think of the gobs of money the West's want for Racing Legends, and
think it would be much better going to building on the core of
GPL/N2002.
