should be looking for to get the best results for GPL and GTR 2002.
Thanks in advance

NVIDIA 4600TI or 4200 . I have a Radeon 8500 which has been nothing but
problems since its' purchase. Happy ***!

I used a Radeon for several years and recently bought an nVidia Ti 4200.
Radeons don't do 16 bit graphics very well (GPL) and the reflections on the
GTR cars to me don't look right on a Radeon (at least on the old one, recent
ones may be better).  Due to round off errors it is very difficult to get a
multitextured/reflection mapped game to look right on both ATI and nVidia
cards, and since most developers design to the nVidia, the ATI often comes
out looking wrong even though technically it has a better renderer.  So if
you are primarily into games I recommend an nVidia card, and the Ti 4200
still seems to be the nVidia card with the best price / performance ratio.
OTOH if you do a lot of stuff in text mode or 2D graphics stuff, the ATI
card with its more precise 2D rendering will be much easier on the eyes.

Depending on how much you're willing to spend, go for an ATI 9700 Pro if you
can afford it.  Now that it supports 16bit FSAA there is no good reason to
hold back from getting this monster.

Wait for a few months till the Nvidia FX comes out. It will rock!

I've heard rumours that the next ATI, the sucessor to the 9700pro, will
hit the store shelves BEFORE the FX.  Anybody know for sure?

The R350 is scheduled for a spring release so yes, you are correct, it will
be out BEFORE the FX.   ;)

Well, it looks like nvidia is investing quite a bit in overclocking the FX
probably so it will outperform the 9700pro.  The cooling system of the FX
will take up an extra PCI slot which indicates to me that they are a bit
desperate to eek out every bit of performance possible.

Usually, in the world of microchips, moving to a smaller die size means
faster speeds at lower temperatures so why does the FX have to have the
largest stock cooling system in the history of graphics cards even having to
go outside of the AGP spec to accomplish it?

How about 125 000 000 transistors  :-)

eyes.

I second that.

No one (here) is rooting for Matrox cards these days are they?

I have infinite loop problems with both the 8500 and Ti4200. I agree that
the cars look much better in GTR with the 4200. Amazing how much better!
Also frame rates are better with the 4200 in BF1942. If only I could resolve
infinate loop! I would still only have the radeon if the loop was gone,
although the loop has opened my eyes to the 4200. It just may be the better
*** card, until the next generation.
