Well, the graphics are beautiful, the cars look great, the chases
seem fun (although they will be very tiresome if they don't offer any
change of pace from the demo).  One thing I don't like is there just
isn't much sense of speed for as fast as this car is going.
But the controls in this game suck, IMO.  God I hope there will be
some better control in the final product.  Starting from a standstill,
it's like you're swinging a gun turret in some shooter game instead of
driving a car.  And while using the handbrake to get around corners is
cool, I think they got carried away with this.
The physics of the car seem about like NFS2SE, which is okay with me
for a good arcade racer, but I was very disappointed in the way the car
drives.  I think it's kind of sad that I can control it just as well or
better with a joystick vs. my wheel.
Did they have a hard time getting the control any better than this,
or are they bound and determined to make the handling and control worse
with each successive NFS game?  Or will this possibly be better in the
final release?

If they made it like NFS was, I'd buy it.  I'm not buying NFS3
like it is now and NFS2 was a piece of ***too.   Make it a good
old DOS game like NFS was.   Forget the 3d garbage, it looks like
***EA... go back to the NFS graphics engine.  That's the ONLY
driving sim you've made that relays any sensation of movement and
speed.   Anyone from EA listening?

NFS2SE rocks!  If you mean NFS2, then yes, it was weak.  SE makes all the
difference.

if he had a good computer or a good 3d accel, he would like it.
NFS - Good sensation of speed, police, great fun
NFS2 - Just ***
NFS2SE - Great graphics better than nfs2 sensation of speed, no police,
still fun

The only real problem that I have (besides the steering just feeling lousy)
is that I can't shift up.  I have mapped the up shifting control to
different keys, buttons on my Nascar Pro, and still the only way my car will
shift upwards is if I get rear ended by another car.  I guess the impact
knocks my speed up enough so that the car will shift.

Anybody else have this problem or know of a fix??

Oh my god, NO !!! The car physics sucked and in the SE (3dfx) the dash-

I agree.  The included text file mentions steering sensitivity, but I
couldn't find that setting in the game.  There is no steering!!  Turn the
wheel all the way, slam on the gas, and you still cannot get it to spin.
Sheesh!

Same problem :-/

I think that you simply CAN'T shift in the demo...should be solved in
the releaseversion (hopefully tons of other things too)...

First the Hand Brake is a cruel joke. If a racing game is based around using
the hand (emergency brake) than it's not any style of real racing. Have you
ever raced with a handbrake as your normal device for managing a corner?

The steerings deadzone was abysmal. The option for deadzone doesn't seem to
work.

And last but not least. Drive the Lambro at 70 mph. You should without even
trying be able to stay on your side of the road inbetween the lanes. Anyone
could in real life. Here it's a big time struggle. The car physics in this
game are a butchers delight.

That's the shortest description of the little difference
between the sim and the game guys. Some like every little bit
of realism they can put in a game to make it as close as
possible to the real thing, and some like to hit a button
and take the corner everytime... ;^)

I disagree. I want realism in my arcade racers WHEN it makes the game
more immersive and fun. For example, the cop chases in NFS1 were the
most fun I ever had with a computer game. But the NFS3 demo cop chases
are so hoplessly unrealistic and silly that it's not much fun at all.
It's not about a fanatical devotion to realism, it's about fun and
IMMERSION. When things get too stupid (like cops trying to ram you
head-on at high speed) it's just not fun, because it totally destroys
the illusion that you are driving a car.
