OK - I know Spirit of Speed is a bad game and I shouldn't have bought it,
and I went back to GPL within a week.

But...  It did seem to have some potential if little details were improved
(physics model, AI, frame rate, number of other drivers etc etc etc).
However, nobody seems to be talking about it even to slag it off!

Are there any useful sites or other NGs which might help make this game not
a total loss?

Well you figure CPR is the same thing as SoS, and the time nor effort
was put in to a make this game worth having patch. I wouldn't hold your
breath.

If the CD cover has a pretty picture, you could crack it open enough to
stand up and put it on top of your monitor to admire. It wouldn't be a
total loss. Have you done a 'search' for newsgroups, or does their home page
have a forum? Thankfully, some of you guys bought it and warned the rest of
us. If only it had multi player. I'd race  toasters online if they were
pretty enough, as a change of pace.

Ok I'll slag it off it's the worse piece of ***driving game ever out!!!
Frame rates on a PIII along with the GForce are ridiculous!

No one is talking bad about it because very few people actually bought it
after playing the demo, in my opinion.
If they would have released the demo after the game had come out, most of us
here in RAS would have bought it, and would have then talked about how bad
it was. Thankfully they released the demo before the game came out, so we
didn't have to waste our money.

I bought it and took it back after playing it for an hour or so. I was
incredibly disappointed with the game as I'm an enormous fan of pre-war
racing especially the battle between Auto-Union and Mercedes.

I haven't seen any discussion, websites, or reviews on this game since
release, apart from a few posts in this group. Not even the developers
have said anything.

The developers, if they have an ounce of conscience, will be*** their heads
in shame.

Jon, face it.  It _IS_ a total loss and unfortunately you are one of the few
who post to RAS who bought it.
Now spare a thought for the possibly hundreds of innocents who bought it and
whom we will never hear about.  They will forever shy away from the genre in
future.

You are calling mediocre physics, AI, frame rate just "little details"?
To me that sounds like all important parts of this game are screwed up,
so
how could anybody besides the developers (starting from scratch) do
something
about it?

On my humble system, SOS proved to be the most expensive screensaver I have
ever owned. Still, it was worth every penny. Those images are beautiful <G>

When Oh when will developers grasp the concept that cars ars steered with a
wheel and not a switch?

This completely spoilt my christmas. Someone bought it for me as a present.
I never had the heart to tell the truth about it to the sender.

The developers were quick to respond to the (fair) criticism aimed at the
demo in this newsgroup but have not done so since the game was released. I
posted a long list of faults with the game (and have found more since...).

Its a pity that they don't appear to be rushing out a patch to correct some
of the more dire errors in the game (for those few of us that did buy it).

Ah well, we live and learn...
