Nascar 2 Purchase questions?

<<1. Will N2 run under Win95, or do I have to reboot in DOS>>

I play it just fine, as I do all my DOS games, from Win95. I may
not say a definite "yes" because not everyone may be as fortunate.

<<2. Does the game require the CD inserted, or can I do a full
install to the HD>>

Either. If you leave the CD in and start the game, though, you get
some motion images and a splash intro. Without the CD in the drive the
games starts normally.

Oops... I meant to say that was what happens when you do a full
installation. I've yet to do a partial install.

You can do a full install, and type "nascar2" instead of "n2" in your
Nascar 2 directory to skip the command for the intro movie. If you have
a rendition card, there are other commands which I won't go into here.
You only need the CD in the drive if you want to host a multiplayer race
(i.e., be the one to answer the phone).

If you have and enjoy the original Nascar, I recommend this version.
Good Luck and have fun!

I'm considering purchasing this game yet I need to know a few things first.
I would appreciate it if any of you could help me out.

1. Will N2 run under Win95, or do I have to reboot in DOS

2. Does the game require the CD inserted, or can I do a full install to the
HD

Thanks

I have a question: why do people run DOS games from Win95. I mean, I can
and have done it, but I get 100% better performance when I restart in
DOS. I assume the performance gain would hold true on almost any
machine. So you guys that run form Win95, clue me in.

It will do both, but on my PC (P133, 16mb) the Win95 version will
encounter slight interruptions in frame rate when Windows accesses it's
swap file.... unacceptable.  I re-installed as the DOS version and it
ran smoothly.

You can do a full install and edit the startup .bat to bypass the intro,
then the CD can be removed.  Later.

REPLY:

1. The networking built into Win'95 is great and painless.

2. You don't have a zillion different setups for each game. You trulty
just press an icon and play.

3. I don't receive your 100% performance boost that you get in dos
mode. Most of the time I can't see any improvement. Honestly.

If you would get the three things listed above, which way would you
choose??

Your assuming what you get performance wise is the norm. But I've
talked with many many about these very issues you bring up. Some people
truly do get better performance through DOS while there's an equal or
larger group that receives no such gain, as Win'95 runs equal to DOS.

I used to boot to dos mode for all my games but I don't for any of them
anymore.  I think the main reason for the change was I went from 16 megs of
ram to 32.  I also bought a Rendition card which was better than my old
card.  I can run Quake from Windows in 640x480, full screen (no health or
ammo shown) at 22 fps, which is quite acceptable I think.  And it's alot
better than restarting the computer all the time.  Plus I can play Nascar 2
while downloading new cars from IWCCCars :)
