Sounds like you don't have a hardware accelerated OpenGL ICD installed
so instead GPL is running using Microsoft's default software OpenGL
driver, hence the huge slowdown (software emulation of hardware
acceleration).  I don't believe ATI's current ICD will work with GPL, so
the OpenGL rasterizer really will not be an option for you at this time.

Open Gl Question (for GPL)

Okay, I'm currently using the GPL demo 1.0.0.0.0 or whatever the exact number
of 0's is. In software mode, I can get up to between 12 and 15 fps with full
details, graphics, everything. This is with a P-II, 400mhz, 64 ram. I also have
a Rage Pro Turbo AGP 8 meg card. So, I downloaded and installed the Open Gl
patch. As soon as I load the game up with 3d acceleration on, the game crawls
along at about .87 fps. What's wrong? I figured that 3d acceleration would
actually speed up my frame rates. Was I wrong in assuming this?

Thanks,

The Open GL stuff needs a decent OpenGL driver underneath. I don't
know how good the OGL layer is on your card, but when I tried it with
my G200, I went from about 15 fps to about 10 fps, versus 22 fps for
the specific G200 driver, which was rather buggy.

I gave up and bought a cheap Voodoo 2 - getting over 30fps does make a
huge difference!

"Normal" 3d acceleration support in Windows is Direct3D acceleration. To use OpenGL
acceleration you need a card that supports it, with drivers that support it. For
the ATi Rage Pro series you need to be running Windows NT for OpenGL support....
