TOCA Race Driver 2 Problem.

Having got some of my interest back after playing RBR (fantasic rally sim),
I decided to load up and try and complete Toca Race Driver 2. It's been a
while since I played it but I don't remember having any problems with the
game pausing and then carrying on after a couple of seconds. It does this
regularly now. The only hardware I've changed is my monitor.
I tried re-installing the game and it's patched to version 1.2 as it was
before.
Any idea's what may be causing these pauses ?

XP Home Edition(SP2 ??)
AMD 64 3.4
1 GB Dual Channel Kingston RAM
ATI 9800 XT

RBR runs perfectly.

My system is mostly different from yours and I had the same problem.
XP PRo, P4 3.2Ghz, GF6800GT and 1 Gb Dual Channel Kingston RAM (The only
thing that matches...).
After updating everthing (M/B, Sound Card, Video Card) to the latest
drivers, it doesn't happen as often, but still, it happens. (Before it was
once a lap, now every 5 races or so)
I might relate to their StarForce copy protection system.
They should issue a fix, so that it only happen on long straigth ;-)...

I suppose it could be something to do with the insane copy protection.
One thing I've just discovered, if I unplug my MS FF USB wheel and drive
with keys, it doesn't lock up at all ! Could there be something about to go
pop inside the wheel ?
Or perhaps it's an SP2 issue ?

Thanks for the reply.

If I recall correctly, many of the people having problems with the StarForce
copy protection scheme complained about interference with USB peripherals -
card readers for digital cameras, memory dongles, etc. So your wheel problem
doesn't sound far-fetched.

Do you have it plugged directly into one of the computer's USB ports, or
into a hub that is connected to the computer? If the latter, try the direct
connection. Some hubs and some USB peripherials don't always get along, and
maybe it's only showing up in this case because of the wierdness of the
game.

Or complain to CodeMasters and demand your money back. Maybe they'll get the
hint if there's enough ruckus.

I believe you have installed SP2 in the last days, which causes the issues.
check out the TOCA RD2 Forum of codemasters.co.uk. There are many gamers
having the issue since SP2

I'll take a look, thanks.
It's definitely something to do with the force feedback  because with a
normal pad or keyboard control, the problem just isn't there.
