After long time I am back in the group and I am very happy ! re hi to all.

I'm gone buy a new Pc only for this stuning game GPL .it will be a PII 350
64mb ,intel 8mb and monster II 8mb..

could someone tell me if this machine will be ok for the game? or it's
still poor??

Knee-jerk reaction: Celeron 300A, clocked to 450, and the 12Mb Monster instead
of the 8Mb.
Otherwise... I dunno. How about wheel/joystick?

I already use a digital edge F1sim ..

A celeron clocked to 450 can be better than a PII 350??

It will be very nice :)

I have P2/333 Monster2 and I would say that is the lowest anyone should have.
(If you like 36fps :)

You will only get ~1-2 laps in the replays with 64mb.

Jason.

 If youre gonna go with an 8meg card I'd go with the Hercules Thriller AGP
8meg, the performance is equal to a 12meg voodoo2 card IMHO, and the coloring
is better.

It will be pretty good but for full on performance you need 400 or better.
By far the most performance for the money is a Celeron 300A overclocked to
450!
A lot of GPL drivers use this combination and it's several hudred dollars
cheaper than a comparable pII. The cpu is where you need the most performance
for GPL, the video and ram will be sufficient.

Yes, believe it or not, an overclocked Celeron 300a (to 450) is as fast
as a PII 450 in games.  If you want to talk Photoshop or something like
that, then the PII 450 will win, but for $120 for the Celeron 300a plus
$100 for the Abit BH6 motherboard that you will need to do the job (it's
the only one that allows you to adjust CPU core voltage manually, which
you _might_ have to do to get a stable overclock).

I've had a C300a running at 450 with default CPU core voltage (2.0v) for
more than a month now, zero problems.  Try to find a Celeron with a
packaging date of weeks 36-38 for especially good overclockers.  My week
36 (pack date 9/5/98) will do 504, but I backed it off to 450 to be more
reasonable. <g>

   But you can tweak CORE.INI for a larger replay buffer.  Ten meg is
do-able on a 64 meg machine, and gives you 30 minutes or so of replay
time.  Straight out of my CORE.INI (sorry about the line spacing --
all of these lines except the last two should start with a
semi-colon)...

;We use a conservative heuristic to determine how large a replay
buffer to allocate to reduce the likelihood of paging
;during gameplay. GPL will always allocate a replay buffer of at least
2M, however, even if the heuristic says that's
;too much. On a 64M machine, you'll pretty much always be in this 2M
zone. You're welcome to experiment with
;larger replay buffers, but I found that even doubling the buffer to
4M on a 64M machine lead to significant paging.
;
;Play with this at your own risk.
;
;In the same directory as the gpl.exe program, use Notepad (or another
plain text editor) to create a text file named
;core.ini In this file, add the following two lines:
;
;[ Replay ]
;
;replayMemoryOverride = X
;
;where X is the number of Kbytes of memory you want to dedicate to the
replay buffer.

[ Replay ]

replayMemoryOverride = 10000

You're not quiete right about the "1-2 lap replays", I'm sure that is what
you're getting, but GPL runs fine in 32Mb of RAM and still has some room for
replays. Therefore, with 64Mb RAM, you have about 32Mb free for replay. A
lap around an average track (by yourself) takes about 200Kb and a lap around
Nurbugring needs about 900Kb.... that makes for a lot of laps in a replay
file. Papayrus, by default have limited the size of the replay to only about
2-3Mb, you can overside this by inserting a line a loine into your CORE.INI
file. I can't remember what the exact syntax is but if you post the question
to the group then I'm sure someone will let you know. I've set it on mive
and with 64Mb or RAM in my computer I can have 32Mb of replay .... makes for
some seriously sized replays :-)

BTW, the line is something like REPLAY_OVERIDE=<size_in_Kb>, but ask the
group for the specific syntax 'cos I'm probably quoting it wrong.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
David mocnay

   That's why it's there. :)  I've been reading Clark's autobiography
from 1964/1965 and I just came across that, so I've been throwing it
out there for a few days.  It's a bit sad when you read his thoughts
of early retirement and going back to his family's farm...

    I just up graded my computer so I can finally run GPL. I purchased  a
VA-503+ motherboard with 100mhz front side bus,64 Mb of SDRAM,and the VIA
Appollo MVP3 chipset. I picked the AMD K6-2/350 3d now for my cpu. I already
have a Diamond Monster 1 accelerator board.

    With this setup,I'm hoping that I will be able to get good frame rates
with most graphics on and at least a 12 car field.
