Hawaii & USR 28.8 modems

I'm going to break my own rule about not using rec.autos.simulators for tech support issues
because I have seen a lot of questions regarding US Robotics modems & init strings.

Before I get into the solution for this particular modem, I ask one favor... PLEASE do not add
more postings to this thread asking about strings for other modems.  It's not that we don't want
to help you -- belive me, WE DO -- but r.a.s. is not a tech support Q&A area.  If you have

If you have a USR 28.8 modem, try the following init string in the Hawaii term program:
        AT&K0&M0&N10&B1

If that one does not work, try:
        AT&K0&M0&N10

In both cases, make sure you have the baud rate in the Hawaii term program set to 19,200.  If
you want to use 9600, change the &N10 in the above strings to &N6.

I have absolutely no problem connecting to Hawaii with my USR 28.8
set to 19200 (in ETERM) and the init string:

 ATZ AT&M0&K0

I have not tried a higher baud rate because of past experience and the
distance of the call.  In other words, 19200 is the best I have gotten
with long distance and still had a constant connection with no
disturbances of any kind.
