RASF1 race

by Eldre » Sat, 02 Aug 2003 12:24:38

Sunday, 8/3/03: Noon eastern
Hockenheim - 40%(28 laps) - dry weather race
Connect through F1rst - look for RASF1 room/server.
Normal tire wear and fuel for this race.
Allowable helps - stability, autoshifting, traction control, pit lane, clutch
Server starts at noon - 15 minutes practice, then qual(12 laps) and race.

Unfortunately, the server car will be on the grid until my first pitstop unless
I can figure something out before then.  What that means is that you'd better
put in a qual lap or two, or you might have to dodge it at the start...

Is there going to be a password on the server or is someone in charge of
keeping out the "other" people of filling in the spots before we join?

If you extend the amount of time before the lights go off (I believe
this is in the PLR file) and don't immediately go to the grid with the
car you're driving, couldn't you drive the server car off into the
sand somewhere before the race starts?

You're probably aware of this, but frame rate is critical for the server
machine in F1C.  Always run on minimum detail, low res.

e.g. If the server drops to 30fps, that will add 33ms (1000ms/30) to
everyone's ping.  I know it's crazy but that's how the game works.  If
you've got a 1.5GHz+ server running at minimum detail, you'll get 100fps+
and you'll be laughing.

Yeah, Ped Xing suggested turning down the graphics on the server.  Thanks.

Possibly, but it would be hard to drive through a remote connection.  The
screen doesn't update fast enough to see where I'm going.  I'll test it tonight
or tomorrow...

Can you press ESC to retire the server car?  Does the race continue if the
server car retires?

I would suggest we have some sort of RASF1 password, otherwise non-RASF1
folks are going to take grid slots from the regulars.

Yes to both questions.  But, I can't hit ESC for the server car until the
lights go out for the start.  It won't let you do it beforehand...

Hi EldredP:

I drive NFS/PU online, but I've never tried a serious sim online.

I'd like to see a movie of tomorrow's race.  Will these be available?

I'll save tomorow's replay and try to convert it to WMV or AVI (DivX) for
you. I'll let you know when its done and i'll put it on the web somewhere.

I have some equipment and software I wrote that could allow me to broadcast
it live (from my car's view of course) but I think that would use up too
much of my bandwidth while playing. Would be cool, wouldn't it? :)

If I knew how to make the server save the full replay, I would...
