I was planning on hosting A1 Ring this weekend, because Eldred is out-of-
town and no one else mentioned whether they had the bandwidth to do so.  My
connection surely isn't good enough for a full grid, but we haven't had
that many cars yet.  Anyway, I went into F1RST2 to test it out, and I have
a weird problem.  I select "Austria A1 Ring" in the drop-down list of
tracks to host, but when the game launches, it loads Albert Park instead!

Unless I can figure out why this is happening, I won't be able to host it
tomorrow.

Hi Ped Xing:

This started to happen to me a week or two ago.
I also wanted to try driving a different car.  After
logging into F1RST, selecting a Renault, hosting a
race and selecting A1, I watched the Sepang map as
the track loaded.  And there I was in Sepang's pits
in my Ferrari.

Try starting F1C, without F1RST, and select the
track.

Then log into F1RST and see if that helps.

I'm iffy for tomorrow.  I haven't had a chance to
get more than 10 laps of practice in.

Doesn't work that way.  F1RST2 asks that the game be shutdown; it has to
launch the game itself.

I guess this race is off; I can't figure out how to get F1RST to load
Austria 2002, it always loads Australia instead.  I CAN get RH2003 Austria
to load, but I'm probably the only one using RH2003.  I guess it was silly
to try and run without Eldred. ;-)

Hi Ped Xing:

I can't get anything but Australia when hosting on
F1RST either now.  It used to work.  Is anybody but
Ped Xing and me selecting a track when hosting?

Why not have a password race using F1C's multiplayer?

    That still works for me.

Hi Ped Xing:

Yea, I must have been mistaken.  I thought starting
F1C, selecting a track, then stopping F1C, would cause
it to "remember" the last track and default to that
when F1RST starts up.

What changed in the last two weeks that would cause
us to have these problems?  Are we the only ones?

It's not working like that for me.  As I said in my
other post, F1C's multiplayer works.

I tried hosting Austria with the 2002 season, and it loaded up Australia as
well.

We are probably the only one's who still run 2002 anyway, as every race
listed when I was in F1RST2 was the RH2003 season.

Hi David:

17 minutes to race time.  Can someone host RASF1 on
F1C's Gamespy?  My dog slow 600MHz system is not a good
choice.

What did we decide about car types and car physics?

The *very* interesting thing about all this is that there was someone
in the chat room named Mike_P, who _was_ able to select Austria 2002
as the track and the correct track loaded for him.

Ped and I both downloaded his track directory contents and installed
them on our machines, but no joy. IIRC, Ped also re-installed the
track files from his CD. That didn't work either.

My original theory that the listbox of track names at F1RST had the
wrong value associated with Austria 2002. But the fact that Mike_P
could get the correct track loaded seems to blow that theory out of
the water.

The 2001 track works, as does the 2003RH track. The 2002 track works
if you fire up F1C locally.

The three of us futzed around until a few minutes after 12:00 EST, at
which point we just gave up.

As they say in the crime shows on the telly: "Eldred, don't even
think about leaving town!"

Since next week is an off week, why don't we run it then? I'll suggest again
that we switch to the RH2003 car set.

Someone needs to go to DETROIT and sit down with Eldred and help him
install the mods.  RH_2003 is waaay better graphically and the 2003
versions of the tracks are often mucho better than 2002.  I know Magny
Cours is improved, and I think that super tight chicane at Suzuka has also
been updated to mimic the more open corner used last year.
until RH_2004 comes out, you guys should be seriously looking at RH_2003.
(which reminds me..I haven't checked out the new Suzuka yet...hasta!)

I am local to him, but I think it was ETC he was having problems with.  I
don't know if he's tried installing RH2003.

I'm all for it.  Guys, at least try to download and install RH2003 before
nixing the idea, if you are opposed.  Here is the link:

Wouldn't have mattered.  I just tried to host A1-ring, and it loaded Australia
for me as well.
Weird...
