SB PCI128 and DOS sims

I hope someone can shed a little light on this problem. I have a Creative
PCI128 soundcard and use the joystick port on the sound card. This works
fine in Win98 and use to work for DOS games played in a DOS box (GP2, Rally
Championship, N2) until now. I don't know what happened but these games no
longer recognize any joysticks or my TSW. Everything looks fine in Device
Manager, Legacy support turned on, joystick port enabled, etc. The joystick
port works fine for GPL, N99, MGPRS2, etc.

Any ideas?

Wayne,

If it's only within a game, try reinstalling it.  Failing that, try the
following:

1) If you have updated card drivers, place them in a temp dir.
2) Remove the card from the device manager.
3) Shut down the system and remove the card.
4) Restart the system without the card.
5) Shut down again and reinstall the card.
6) Restart and allow Win98 to find the card.
7) Select the drivers either from the CD or the temp dir. you created.

If the above don't do it for you, install Thrustmaster's Pro Panel.

Cheers!

Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the help. I tried everything you listed and still no luck. I know
these games use to work a couple of weeks ago. Since then I've updated the
bios on my motherboard and installed a new video card. So I flashed the old
bios back in...no change. I don't really want to swap out the VRaptor 8MB
AGP for the old Stealth II S220 but I may have to just to be sure.

Any other ideas?

Wayne

SB PCI128 and DOS sims

Found the solution finally. I have a Sidewinder Precision Pro USB joystick.
If I unplug the joystick from the USB port, my regular joysticks / wheels
work fine in DOS sims in Win98. With the USB joystick plugged in, the
regular sticks just don't exist.

Thanks for the help,

Wayne Hutchison

Is it possible the wheel has a Cat-Modified cord, or is broken in some
other respect?

Actually, I would have caught it right away if I knew about the PPUSBJS
:)

I have the same setup.  The Joystick does, indeed, kill the Joystick
port when in use!
