New groups for various sims (an idea on doing this)

Has anyone considered trying the old tried and true method of starting
the idea in alt.config and maybe trying out these new groups as alt.*
groups first, then move to make them rec.* groups?
Seems reasonable to me.

Aw hell,
I shouldv'e figured if there was a less involved way that was worth a
dang you and the others wouldv'e used it instead. Oh well, this is why
I'm glad I posted this first instead of trying to start something in
alt.config and coming here going "hey gang, new groups in alt." I
kinda thought I'd be a much happier camper if I checked the idea here
first. Now I just hope someone else doesn't see my first post and go
"cool, I can do that" :-)

Consider, though, that alt.* groups aren't propagated worldwide.  Most
news admins are hesitant to carry them because of the nature of alt.*
groups (sleaze, illegal binaries, etc.).  I still, for example, can't
get the supposed alt.simulators.binaries group.
