GPL Realistic Damage Working?

I've been racing on Pro Short, and it says realistic damage model on a
line at the bottom, where it gives race length and the other info.  It
seems that the damage model is quite relaxed IMO.  Anyone else notice
this? For instance  I  was going around a corner, and didn't realize
there was a car to my left rear.  We got tangled, I went air born a
bit.  (can the cars actually flip?, they seem to have that GP2 thing
going where they don't actually turn over) anyway, I boucned off the
fence, came down hard, did a few 360's hit the fence again, and
suffered no real damage.  Are flats modeled?  Haven't seen one of
those yet either.

I've flipped, had bits and pieces of bodywork shred of the car, and had
multiple wheels fly off and go bouncing down the track ahead of me. I
don't think I've had a flat yet...

Seemed to... I ripped a wheel off at Nurburgring going probably 200mph.
Took a LONG time to stop.

Yeah, I think so. Only got it tonite so I don't have a lot of time in yet, but
I'm sure I had realistic damage on while in training mode (or it might have
been intermediate) but I clipped a guard rail, went airborne for 2.5 360's,
hit, bounced, a couple more 360's on the ground, and still in one piece, car
still drivable.  Then later I plowed into some of those tires set on the curves
at Monza, sheared everything off the left side of the car :)

But later, running a full race I found that with realistic damage on, if you
hit *anything* with your front end, you're gonna knock it out of alignment.
After that, it's gonna pull!!!  How bad seems to depend on the nature of the
impact...  I had some that were just an annoyance, others that made the car
basically undrivable.  Now *that's* cool :^)

Can they flip???? Hell yes.  I've been end-over a dozen times anyway, & several
times came to rest either on my side or upside-down.  Pretty cool, being
upside-down & watching the other cars blow past... (Tho I'd rather blow past
with *them* upside-down...)

Dunno about that.  But in practice session at Monza, I got a yellow flag on the
back straight , then passed an AI car stopped in the road.  I went to replay to
see what happened.  He had started slowing about a mile back & was just
coasting about 30-35 the last half-mile.  There was no visible damage or impact
w/another car, so something must have broke. He certainly weren't outta gas, 2
laps into practice.  Maybe a flat, who knows?

Man, this game RULES!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah!  That is a good point. :-)  The damage model still seems a
bit to relaxed though.  It just doesn't seem as though the damage
model fits the rest of the sim.  (IMO)

I'm pretty sure there are flats. If you scrape a fence for eg, you will notice the car
pulls to one side until you shift-r.

Well you might not "see" one graphically but I think you'll find they're modelled.

That what happens when you bend an axle or something, it isnt a flat.

I'm sure I've heard the sound of a flat tire while i tryed limping in
after scraping fences or flipping several times.  It even causes
sparks whil trying to go fast with 3 good tires

You're right.  A slight clip of a wall of guard rail will bend the
suspension, but some other fantastic slams and twists seem to result in no
damage.

Marc.

Hello Byron,

I think it might be the alignment being knocked out, hell who knows??

Eric bush, what is it..when it pulls is it the alignment, or a tire down. Or
is it what ever the hell we want it too be<G>

Flats aren't as visible as say F1RS

Quite a few times I've retired after crashing & subsequently going off again
down the road. Hitting Esc & viewing the leaderboard I see puncture against
my name!
