Is there any type of racing/driving game that hasn't been made yet? I tried
to think of one, but it's hard. We already have Formula 1, rally, CART,
superbike, moto-cross, NASCAR, Karting, streetracing, and a bunch of other
types of games that I can't think of right now, ranging from very realistic
to very 'arcadish'. So, what do you think would be great? Just better
versions of the games that are already out there? Or something completely
new?

By the way, I'd love to see a really good karting game (don't care much for
Super 1 Karting...).

CART?? where?? :p
I'd love to see a good rallycross and a hillclimbing sim.
Or a one make series like Porsche Supercup would be nice too.

I guess what I'd like to see is a program which lets you create a racing
environment (automotive) from scratch -

from an urban ciy environment, like Burnout, with lots of people and traffic,
to a Formula 1 track to a Rally track to stadium racing to.... just driving
around in everyday traffic.

Essentially, if the physics and graphic engines are there, the rest could fall
neatly into place.

Think "Racing Simulator Construction Set"...

For an idea of something I think is a great approach to "builder" user
interface designs, albeit for virtual railroading simulation, see

http://www.auran.com/trainz/default.htm

There are some screenshots around there somewhere...

Off-shore power boats?

What do they call the ex-WWII fighter planes that race around giant pylons
in the desert?

Street luge?

I can't think of any WOO style dirt games.

Paris-Cape town rally/raid could be fun, random generated long stages, armed
bandits, civil wars etc... ;)

I would love to see an add-on or expansion pack
for Dirt Track Racing that models the small town
dirt track racers of the early-1960's.  The cars
would be from the '30's-'50's.  Love to be able to
replicate an evening of stock and modified racing
featuring such a field of cars.

(Yes, this is the period trashed by MCO.  That's
why I'd like to see Ratbag take a swing at it.)

Art, it's called Xtreme Air Racing (the game, that is)... not sure of the link,
though.

There's no World Land Speed Record sim, but I'm not sure anyone would
want to go 700+ mph across featurless terrain.

I'm itching for a "point to point" street racing simulation. Something
along the lines of the Porsche Unleashed club races, but with longer
and more realistic roads.

We don't have a realistic CART simulator, nor a realistic modern rally
simulator ;)

What I personally would want is an online-based 24 hours of LeMans sim.
Just one track (in multiple version throughout the years), with multiple
era-type of cars (the end of the 60's, early 50's, the end of the 80's and
modern cars.  It would be a pure multiplayer simulation, where you could set
your own (or perhaps the developer) major event with a full 40 car field in
multiple divisions.  Sure everybody would want the big classes, but you
could force a set of numbers, etc...  It could even work with your online
rank, where if you perform well in the previous race you would have a better
chance to get those prototypes in the next one.  Races couldn't be shorter
then 1 hour, so that nobody could pad their ranking.

All >1 hour racing, up to 24hours.  Multiplayer-based, with teams with 2 or
3 players (or alone).  The idea is complicated yet easy to implement.  With
1 key, the driver can call for a driver to replace him.  The other driver(s)
would receive a message on their PC (who doesn't need to have the game
loaded, just a little application in the systray) that it's now his turn.
He can then connect to the server, and when both are on the server then the
driver can pit so that we change drivers.  You would have a Roger Wilco-type
system that would also be in the tray where you could make a "phone call" on
the PC of the drivers in your team.  This way, they could report on you, or
perhaps say that they aren't available in the moment and continue on the
track.  Well, it's more complicated but you get the major point :)

I want to see an ASA or USAR stock car racing sim (short tracks!) and some
variety of realistic touring car sim (British, Aussie, Aussie V8s, German,
SCCA, whichever or all!).

Get Papy just to update Indycar racing to GPL and NASCAR 4 standards.

I'm waiting for a better police chase game than Driver... Or those "rice
rocket"
street racer things. :-)  If you wreck the car, you lose it and get a
big ticket, and
get hauled off to the slammer. :-D  And be the cop to setup road blocks
and
such to catch these ricers. :-)

How about an ambulance/fire engine sim? Get to where you need to go in
the
minimum amount of time without causing an accident...

For driving, and the technology isn't there yet but will be some day,
I think a game which consisted of the complete Mille Miglia in a
highly realistic environment would be rather exciting.

While we're waiting for those computers, I would like a game which
simulated owning a NASCAR team over many seasons; you don't drive,
you're just the owner/crew chief and you hire and fire drivers, plan
testing sessions at various tracks, sign (and lose) sponsors, "develop
new technological approaches" (otherwise known as cheatin'), and in
general have a fine time running the show.  I'm talking about a game
like Baseball Mogul or Front Office Football, where in an evening's
play you could sim a 20-year career as a team owner.  Would be pretty
interesting I think.
