Can N2 be run in DOS?

by Lew Wiegan » Mon, 30 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I recently bought Nascar2 and it runs like shit! My attempts to run it
in dos have resulted in a message that says it can't. My question is:
Since I've read in this newsgroup about guys running N2 in dos, how can
it be done?

n2 is actually meant to run in dos, not windows95.  To get it to run in
dos, you need all of your drivers installed, e.g. mouse, cd-rom (if not
a full install), sound card.  The thing that sucks is the fact that if
you bought a machine from your local retailer with windows95 installed,
it probably isn't configured very well to run dos applications.  This
game is excellent, minus a few gripes about the ai. BTW, you will need a
fast pentium to get the best results if you do not have a rendition
based video board. (at least 133 or higher)
good luck.

N2 is meant to be run in dos.  Restart your computer in dos, go to the
nascar2 directory, and type Nascar2.  After that, remember or write down
the error message, and maybe then we can help.

N2 in DOS ?? it LOVES dos!!! all you have to do is to make sure that
your mouse driver
and sound card driver are loaded during autoexec, or load them manually
at the prompt.
Btw, N2 runs great in win95 dos, but runs even better from "True" dos,
so if you havent set up a multi-boot to give you the option of starting
in your previous version of dos, give it a try!! (the test for true dos
vs win95 dos is to type EXIT at the prompt...if not true dos, win95 will
start. if in true dos, you probably wont be able to start win95 at
all!!) anyway, besides less jerky controls and/or video, you should see
the amount of replay time available when run through dos compared to
running through win95. it is at least triple on my machine... btw, you
do not have to have your cdrom enabled in dos (though it IS nice) you
will get a message saying "error loading something or
other,,,,,Abort,,,,Retry,,,Ignore,,,,Fail,,,," simply type I for ignore,
and it will skip the pretty opening graphics on the disc,,, this is only
for a complete install, though.  AND,,,it seems as though my puter never
gives me that message anymore, though I have never bothered to find out
why....i never have the disc in while playing,,,,
Well, I know you didnt ask for a book,,,,but give it a try in good ole
DOS ! you'll love it!!

While N2 does run fine, well, actually great , in DOS, how can you say that
it is MEANT to be run from DOS?  Is it not the game everyone will be using
for the NROS?  And doesn't TEN reguire a Win95 interface?  Or what??
