N3 another one for the shelf!!!!

Drives too much like N2 !!!!  I was entertained for about 1.5 hours
but now that's gone.   Going to be a dust collector for me :(

I did get to see the eye candy at the tracks without getting too board
but its not up to par either.   FUZZY graphics that made me feel like I
needed glasses BADLY.  GPL and Viper Racing graphics are far superior
IMO.  Even while eyeballing the graphics it was hard to continue driving
with the boring N2 type physics.

Sounds are better than N2 but the engine sounds still need work.  No
snap crackle pop, they still just drone about in you're ear.  I used my
SB Live AND bought the Diamond MX300 with similar results.  Actually I
liked the sounds better with the Live card but it has no reflective
sound so no real winner there either :(

Still no support for a clutch pedal or SEPARATE PEDALS, exactly the
same as N2 in that respect.  Throttle pedal does have better modulation
however.

I think Goy Larson summed it up the best so far.  " Its what Nascar
1999 should have been ".

Doug Straley

P.S.  Somebody mentioned a money back guarantee in the manual if you
have a reason so I'll have to find where it's hidden.

Sadly, I agree (except for the fuzzy graphics that is). N3 is a complete
disappointment for me. I was (am) planning on racing in a league!...How
am I going to stay awake? <G>

It is plain and simply a prettied up N2. They also improved Internet
play and I am SURE this and establishing WONNET was a major goal. They
accomplished both of them based on my 4 hours or so racing online
yesterday.

Problem is that I still feel like I am playing a video game. I cannot
lock up my wheels under braking, and the physics are about 3 years
dated. Yes, there are some physics improvements, but they are marginal,
and just little tweaks on what was already inaccurate. I cannot get into
that zone that I can get into with GPL. GPL has spoiled me. Nascar3 will
not be able to satisfy my need for competitive online racing. I will
still have to get that from GPL (and to do that, a league is required).

I love Nascar and cannot wait until the personal compputer industry can
support the requirements needed for a Nascar simulation with physic
models rivaling GPL (or better). I know Papy did not make money on GPL
and if you do not make money you cannot exist. My whole Nascar3 attitude
sounds very negative. I just hoped and expected more than a prettied up
N2. I knew it was going to be the same engine, but jeez, I haven't
driven N2 for probably over a year! I went out yesterday in my brand
new, 143 car (funny to see such high numbers on these cars) and I felt
like I was driving virtually the same car as I was driving 18 months
ago! Knew it 5 seconds into my first "pit out" and experienced it for
about 4 hours online last night.

BTW, the fact that it does NOT support separate pedals is inexcusable. A
child's simulation, now Papy, I hope you can give me a racer's
simulation (like GPL) within the next 12-18 months. I will probably buy
it either way to support, but how much I play it is another story.

Just two points.  Did you enable reflections in the sound menu?  And, I used
it with split axis pedals, no problem.

You can enable it...but the functionality is basically useless. See GPL
to see how it is supposed to work...

Yes, I think we both bought the same "game" as you did. Problem is I
was looking for a simulator.

Whiney-ass.

Go call 1-800-BE-PETTY and drive a real stock car. [Yes, I have done that too.]

Let me guess, you also have a customized Simpson fire suit and you wear your
helmet with the shield down when you race too...so that you can get that
"simulation" feel.

I think it's time you get one or all of the following:

1)  Eye Gllasses.
2)  A new computer.
3)  Nascar Racing 2/99
4)  A life
5)  All of the above

Then how do you account for another post in this thread which says:

"Just two points.  Did you enable reflections in the sound menu?  And, I
used
it with split axis pedals, no problem."

this person appears to be using split axis. What is your problem?
Is he lying?

The dreaded *plonk* was awarded for complaining about the lack of a feature
that's lacking only due to that poster's inability to configure his own
game.  Sort of like someone whining about GPL not having manual gearshift.
:-)

That's exactly how I read it too, Steve.  Makes one wonder if the 2 posters
complaining about it actually own the game or gave it more than 5 minutes.
Complain if you don't like the sim based on an informed opinion, but if you
can't figure out how to get split axis pedals to work, when the sim detects
them fine if you have them set up properly, same as GPL, same as *N2*, ICR2,
etc. - I can't take much else you write seriously.  To further criticize the
game as a "child's simulation" because HE couldn't get something to work is
I'm sure why he got the plonk.

I guess ya have to know Ed too and why he'd plonk someone hehe

OK..so I don't follow the group enough and just caught a couple of
responses...either they did not see my other post, decided not to read
it (probably), or are english challenged....I said the split axis (dual)
IS THERE(!), but is practically useless. I have a TSW formula wheel, am
unchallenged by setting up my equipment (and have run it fine in gpl
just recently btw), and as usual am finding many people in these
newsgroups react like children. It really does make me wonder why one
person opinion can so deeply offend. Must have been the "child" sim
comment 8-0
Another mentioned me playing for 5 minutes...again (in my post) I stated
I had played for ~4 hours. Since then, I have played many more, had some
good races, and think N3 is certainly improved over N2. However, I still
feel it is just basically a prettied up N2, and most all of the same
flaws are there. It is funny to me that the knee-jerk responses I saw
assumed I thought it a disappointing because I could not enable dual
axis pedal support (which I stated I did..again for the record)! That is
but a small criticism. It is a fun game, but not a great nascar
simulation. Sorry you guys have skin like tissue paper...
