Voodoo4/5??

I've heard they're coming out soon...

When, and, if I'm thinking correctly, will they drive V3 prices down
further??  (Or heaven forbid V2's down below $40?????)

Voodoo4/5??

Good Question.  I think May is the release target.  (actually last
Xmas was  "supposed" to be, I think 3dfx took a page from Nintendo's
marketing manual and announced production of the V4/5 to cut into the
release sales of the Geforce, even tho that hadn't even produced a
working pre-production sample.

I do have a technical question about the full Screen AA if anyone
knows>>>>  The Rendition cards could to AA but sims like Nascar 2
deliberately left that feature turned off(I presume for frame-rate
issues)  Many folks commented that F12k would really benefit from the
V5's AA, but if they feature is not included in the software in F12k,
can the new Voodoo's still smooth everything out?

Voodoo4/5??

Supposedly the V5's hardware FSAA will work with ALL games, even older ones.
At least that's what 3dFX has stated in a few interviews.  They've claimed
it as an advantage over the competitions' hardware T&L, as it needn't be
coded in the games.  You can count on an FPS hit though.  How big a hit will
be indeed interesting to see.

Cheers,

Steve B.

Voodoo4/5??

Yes it is all done in hardware the game does not have to be written to
support it. As long as the game is D3D, OpenGL, or Glide it will work.

Voodoo4/5??

YES!!

The Voodoo5 AA is different than what we had on the Rendition.  It's Full
Screen, not just Edge.  It actually seems that us simmers will benefit the
most from this technology from the screenshots I've seen.  The FSAA of the
V5 smooths out all the jagged lines on the screen, and seems to eliminate
texture "swimming".

The really good thing of this is that it's all automatic.  The card was
designed with this in the hardware, supposedly at a small loss in framerate.
Since it's a feature of the card, it works in EVERY game - D3D, Glide,
OpenGL - with no coding for it needed in the game.  If a game doesn't look
good with it, you can turn it off.
