GEForce verus voodoo4/5, and the winner is....

Just saw this over here: http://www.racesimcentral.net/

...
It's funny to look back to only one year ago and realize that 3DFX has gone from
monopolizing mogul to questionable contender in the 3D Video Card Rat Race.
Their former 'competition' has become the leader of the industry; yes folks, I'm
talking about the beloved nVIDIA. In this 'assessment', I had intentions of
providing factual evidence as to why the next line of Voodoo (4 & 5) could be
considered a threat to the GeForce's position on top of the 3D Throne.
However, upon analysis of these facts (and a long-winded discussion with Rick),
it seems that the upcoming line from 3DFX will hardly be a worthy opponent for
the GPU Giant. Alliteration aside (d'oh! - did it again).. we feel that the
evidence we've gathered shows that the nVIDIA throne won't be usurped any time
soon.
...

I don't want to start a worthless flame war going over nvidia versus 3dfx, but
those waiting for voodoo4,5,6 or whatever might be in for a let down.

So, is the GPL mirror problem fixed with the GEForce? Might buy me one.

Keith.

I got my geforce for christmas, I guess the bottom line is voodoo3 won over
the tnt models for the past generation, and the Geforce is king now and will
still be king when voodoo 4/5, those voodoo cards over virtually no benifit
over voodoo 3. So voodoo 3 won this years graphics, Nvidia has won the next
wave of graphics. and then they will probllay still be battling after that
lol.  Maybe the voodoo 6 will be king again.

.....There isn't a winner yet. Virtually no improvement over a V3? The V5s
aren't out yet, but if they meet the announced performance specs there will
be a huge improvement over a V3 and anything else that is currently
available.  As for that article, this guys logic has more holes in it than
Swiss cheese.  That is the problem with these "Fan/news" sites and the
internet in general. Any monkey with a computer can post whatever they want
without any facts or knowledge to back it up.  That article was just a bunch
of FUD slinging, nothing more. A cheap way to try and get page hits.

Here's a theory: why don't you do a competent, objective, professional
comparison when the actual card comes out?  In keeping with the absurdity of
your hypothetical comparison, I plan to write an article comparing the 2003
Porsche 911 vs. the 1999 Corvette.  While the Porsche is not yet in
production, after consulting my Tarot cards I have a strong hunch as to
which car will come out on top.  Following your lead, I will base my article
mainly on conjecture and speculation.  I too have little interest in earning
the respect of my readers.

BTW, if you didn't intend to start a "worthless flame war" then why did you
spend so much time authoring a worthless article?  That's the problem with
the internet, anyone with HTML skills and some web space is now a
"journalist."  It's like making the TV repairman the President of ABC News.
Since you are so fond of alliteration here's a new title for your piece:
Nerdy Know-Nothing Negates Nvidia's Nearest Known Nemesis.

Kyle and Joe,
You guys must be human truth detectors.  The one thing the article failed to
mention was the issue with Glide vs D3D.  Every game/sim I have ever seen
that offers both Glide and D3D, Glide blows away D3D.  If GeForce will
someday process Glide then maybe Nvida will prove worthy, but not until a
competent tech person actually see a V4/5.  3Dfx has some very bright people
and its way to soon to have any analysis without some real hardware.

You need to check up on the 3dfx specifications and quit listening to all the
F.U.D. being spread by the anti-3dfx minions.

The V5 ought to double the frame rate of the V3, or, if you prefer, it will
yield you 60FPS with full screen AA enabled.

The latter is quite appealing to this sim racer.

why even bring out a corvette. it is a total trash. All GM knows is how to
copy style from the 3rd gen RX-7 and the Acura NSX
