SBK Superbike HELP!!

by Eric Cot » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hello all, hope someone can find an answer on this...

I've installed SBK Superbike with great expectation, yesterday, knowing
that internet play wouldn't be really good, but that's not my point
here...

When i try to launch the ***y game, it simply won't start giving me
this error:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!
Program c:\PROGRA...(bla bla)...\SUPERBIKE.EXE

Abnormal program termination
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried everything i knew so far to resolve this, reinstalled DIRECTX
6.0
then tried DIRECTX 6.1, did SCANDISK, DEFRAG, uninstalled/reinstalled
the game too many time...

Here's my PC config:
P2 350 MHZ, 128 SDRAM
Viper 550 (Riva/TNT)
2 Monster 3D voodoo2 SLI
SoundBlaster LIVE!

I've went to WINFILES.COM maybe looking for a Visual Basic DLL file
missing
so I've installed VBRUN300.DLL, VB40032.DLL, VB500.DLL in the system
dir.

This problem only happened with this game and previously tried the demo
that gave me this problem.

There's probably something missing somewhere, or really bad
compatibility issue
and seems that EA SPORT games are always the one that are ***...

Checked the registry with SCANREGW, no problem, I even reinstalled WIN98

on the pc...which went ok, but again, after reinstalling SBK Superbike,
same
stupid problem...

Sent email to EA tech support, but guess i'll have to wait..

As you've seen, i've done my lessons to try to resolve the problem,
I've checked with DXDIAG to try to see a major problem, apart
MONSTER/VIPER/SB LIVE drivers that are ok, but not certified
by Microsoft, i simply can't understand this.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated

Eric, I would bet it is an issue between your Voodoo 2's and the TNT
if you are trying to play it with the TNT you must disable the D3D option
support in the display properties, advanced options for your Voodoo 2.
    Hope this helps!

SBK Superbike HELP!!

by SIMRACINGMA » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi Pete, just tried that, unfortunatly it doesn't resolve this odd problem..
Tried also turning off any extras in Adanced option for V2 (Trilinear buffereing
and so on), no luck, tried different screen resolution, no luck...

What's really odd is the fact, it gives me that error about 1 sec or so after
i've
clicked on Superbike.exe (shortcut, directly from the dir, or trying RUN), I
barely
hear the HD working b4 the error. Ity could be a problem in registry, but, i've
reinstalled WIN98 maybe thinking it could sort it out....weird...

thanks anyway, Eric

Visual C++ isn't Visual Basic...

Do you run a "foreign" (i.e. not English) Windows 9x?

Have you installed Visual C++, Visual InterDev, MS Frontpage, MS
Office, MS Whatever 6.3 other then an English version?

Did the installer yell at you about older/newer/other language DLL's?

no, it's the English version...

No, no, no and no...

All my programs are in English version.

Again no

The installer doesn't give me any error message, even after
uninstalling/reinstalling
the game in different size (402MB then 26X somethin')

thanks for your support

I have the same problem.  EA suggested uninstalling and reinstalling and
make sure drivers are latest.  I tried that, it didn't help.  If you find
out how to overcome this please let me know ?

Thanks

SBK Superbike HELP!!

Had a similar problem with my Xeon 450 with STB v4400 TNT and 2 x Blackmagic 12mb
Voodoo2. Just went into control panel and slowed down the acceleration of the TNT and
voila...all worked. Since upgrading to the Detonator drivers for the TNT I haven't
had the problem and can run the TNT at full accleration. Hope your problem is
similar....

SBK Superbike HELP!!

by Mark C Dod » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

What is the size of your superbike executable? It should be 900K.  Have you tried
running it from the StSBk executable instead?

The reason I ask is the one other time I had a problem with a game like this was
when my DVD drive just wouldn't read the CD properly during installation and the
executable was corrupted. When I loaded the CD from my normal CD drive or my CD
R/W drive the game ran okay.

SBK Superbike HELP!!

by Mike Vanlandingha » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Eric,

I've got the same problem, and have tried pretty much the same things you
have.  I posted a message a while back and got a couple of e-mail responses
I'll pass along.  One didn't work.  One I haven't tried yet.

My system is:

Abit BH6

PC100 (128) RAM
Guillemot 12 meg SLI
Stealth V2100 4meg
SB 16
US Robotics 33.6

Here's one of the e-mail responses I got:

Mike,
I had the exact same problem. I uninstalled  and re-installed the game. The
second time it ran fine.
I have Norton Anti-virus running in the background, this has caused problems
while installing other games. I disabled Norton before re-installing the
game.
So you might want to check the applications you have running to see if they
are
causing a conflict with the installation.
Also make sure the program is completely un-installed, I used the programs
uninstall and there were several files that it left that I had to remove
with
Norton Un-install.
Hope this helps.
Brian

[I've tried installing with NOTHING running in the background, and with
everything running in the background.]

Here's the other  (I haven't tried yet.  I'm loath to start fooling with my
video drivers now that everything but SBK is working great, but let me know
if it works for you, and I'll try it :-)):

Check it out. I gave it one last try before returning it and I got it (my
system is different than yours, but it may work).
I changed the video driver to plain 'ol SVGA (use the display
properties/advanced button) - right click on desktop to get it.
Rebooted and installed DirectX
Ran SBWC - it worked!
Then, I re-installed my OLD DRIVER (I have RivaTNT)
Now it works OK - but I can't seem to get over 640 X 320 and I KNOW my
system will do it.

Hope this helps.  Let me know.  I'm dying to try SBK but am getting pretty
frustrated.

SBK Superbike HELP!!

by Eric Cot » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Mike and Micheal, I found it by mistake... This morning came back in the PC room

with a blue screen (you know what i mean, hehe) it said press enter and bla bla
bla..
then it said, win98 has become unstable please restart (cold boot).

When i restart win98, the message it told me is the power management did provoke

the unstable condition by going on STANDBY, and asked me to turn it off, which I
did....

Then, i don't know why, tried SBK superbike, and VOILA, it started !!

Went to the Control Panel, and checked under POWER MANAGEMENT
and instead of having 3 sheme, i have 2 now which are:

TURN OFF MONITOR   ---> was and is NEVER
TURN OFF HARD DISK ---> was and is NEVER

The other one, which I can't recall ( was remove from the boot error) is gone
I'm sure that's the problem.

Before they were all 3 at NEVER, but did went on STANDBY after some period
of inactivity, which I never understood.

If someone knows how to remove that ***y POWER MANAGEMENT completely, please
let me know... I'll  scratch that...

Under RUN (from START menu) and type msconfig <enter> Then we have an applet
called System Configuration Utility, under STARTUP TAB, you'll find many
programs that can be turned off from the taskbar and start menu, one of them is
called LoadPowerProfile, and it's checked ON.
If I turn it off is it going to turn off the POWER MANAGEMENT under CONTROL
PANEL ? I'm affraid to try that one...

Anyhow, now SBK Superbike is running... just did 1 lap at Monza, difficult
indeed
at Realist mode with no help...This is the way I always learn a new sim, pays in
the long run..

Few things I've found, I can't go at 1024x768, only at 800x600, under either
vy SLI V2 cards or TNT card, you have the option from the game to switch video
cards..

Also in the CONTROLLER menu, I can't change the sensibility zone, everything is
full, that's strange...

Anyhow, now that I've told you, I'll go and learn the bike, I chose Neil Hodgson
Ducati, when he falls off the bike, after few tumbles, he runs back to the bike,
lift it with great difficulty, these motorcycle are way less than 400 lbs... I
think he needs
a good gym training... I use to own a Suzuki RG500 (2 stroke smoker/4 cylinder)
and it was so light to lift it... (hey, i was not suppose to fall, don't I ?)

ohh yes... the graphics are SUPERB !!

Good luck, and tell me if POWER MANAGEMENT is the trouble..

Cheers, Eric

SBK Superbike HELP!!

by Pete » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Eric, glad you got it working! 800x600 is the max unfortunately but
there
is a way to get the graphics better. Set the slider at custom and then go
turn everything up to the max with the slider bars.
With the controllers the only way you can change the sensitivity is if
you
are using a digital input. With wheels or other analogue devices it defaults
to fastest sensitivity.
There is also a custom setup for realism and you can then turn on or off
all the help aids you want if one of the preset ones aren't to your liking.
There are slight differences between the bikes, here is what I have
found
out from my experiences. Honda fastest, most HP, but also much harder to
setup at difficult tracks as you keep blowing off the tires in the corners
also
increasing tire wear for when you run full length races. Ducati is the best
handling
but also the slowest speed wise. But the on some tracks one negates the
other.
Also its power band is much lower so different gearing is also needed.
Suzuki
appears it may have slightly better brakes than the rest which may suit your
driving
style. Yamaha seems to have have a nice blend of all characteristics.
Kawasaki
is second most nimble of the bikes after Ducati but is down on power.
Key to going fast is the braking, and then the throttle points!
Hope this is of some help to get you started.

    Pete
P.S. I just remembered for those of you that have to uninstall the game
because of
lockups because of Voodoo card enabled when you wanted to run TNT you have
to manually delete the folder because it saves some kind of config in there.
There
also may be a registry setting as well, but I will check on that.
