Psygnosis F1 CE and DirectX6

Anyone had experience running a Psygnosis racing sim under DirectX6?

I purchased their Formula 1 CE and really enjoyed their Arcade racing.
When I later installed Viper Racing, I went from DirectX5 to Direct X6, and
now I can't get the Psygnosis game to run.  I get to their vehicle
selection screen in either Arcade or Gran Prix mode and the sound card and
machine lock up.
