loads, then dumps me back in windoze (95).
I run a PII-300, 64mb Ram, AGP Matrox G200 8mb, latest matrox drivers, DX6
Anybody else with a G200 got this thing to hardware accel ?

Try setting your desktop to 640x480 16bit colour and run GPL in 640x480.
Mine does work, but I use my Monster3D2 12mb :)

I had the same problem, and have not been able to fix it.
(It works in software emu mode of course, just not so quickly)
I'm slightly dubious about DX6, but have not tried going back to DX5.2.
I also tried the OpenGL driver, which is quite amusing, you get about 0.3
fps,
ie. one frame you are in the pits, a couple of frames on the start/finish
straight
and then the next frame you are on top of the guard rail. :-)
I have given up trying to get it to work.
Cheers,
Mark

Maybe try downgrading your G200 driver to the version that was
current when the G200 GPL patch came out. Maybe 4.21? The
news archives at www.matroxusers.com should have the info.
The driving line is badly garbled. The readme says to turn it
off; I just can't play GPL without it. I went back to playing
on my Voodoo 1 and waiting for version 2 of the patch. Since
no version 2 appears to be forthcoming, the only hope for G200
owners is that Matrox improves their ICD enough to run the
OpenGL patch. (I wouldn't hold my breath. Even nVidia, whose
ICD is pretty good, still haven't done the optimizations needed
to get the mirrors right.)
