Logitech Wingman RumblePad? Anyone use it?

I'm looking for a decent "on the road" controller for my notebook.  Has
anyone tried the dual-stick Logitech controller with various sims?  What is
it like?  Do the sticks have enough precision to make it useful.

yes. good. yes.

used it in gpl for an hour or so yesterday, until i get a wheel at
work.  was quite good.  steering was quite easy to get used to,
throttle/brake a nightmare so i had to have the help turned on (kill
me now!), but i guess i'd be able to turn this off after a day or two.

i don't know what the alternatives are, but if i needed gpl on a
laptop, this is the one i'd buy.

sub thread: i had to run in s/w mode, cos in d3d the input was lagging
behind somewhat, and causing stutter, even keyboard mode. replays were
fine though.  win2000, hp pro savage pm133 card, directx 7.0.  any
ideas?  i haven't got any other games in which to test it :-((

woops. that line came out wrong (early morning!).  i meant to say that
i prefer this quite a bit over a joystick, but i haven't tried
anything other than the wingman & joystick.  sorry for the confisuon.

Is this a notebook flavour of Savage graphics?  If so, the W2K drivers are
dreadful and cause lots of stuttering in GPL on my notebook, which may also
explain your controller lag.  I dual-boot with Win98 for GPL and other
diversion.  Think I'll try the pad.

Oh, by the way, does it rumble at all in GPL?

its on a cheapo pc.  not mine, so dual booting etc not much of an option!
will try 'upgrading'  directx.

i dont know, i was too scared to try!

... but i just spent 3 mins trying, and it didn't work.  but i'm no expert!

Yes it does.  Just turn on force feedback in core.ini, the FF effects
get translated to rumble effects.

I have tried this controller with a number of driving games, and was
never able to come up with axis assignments that I felt comfortable
with.  How do you have it set up, i.e. on which axes do you have
throttle, brake, and steering?

The RumblePad is GREAT.

It fits the hand nicely, has good button feel, and very nice analog
controllers.
