Weeelll... EA has an offer for registered owners of NFS to get NFS
SE for $24.95 by calling their (800) number. That was how I got it. If

I was a bit hesitant to get NFS SE after reading all the complaints but I did
anyway.  Sure enough - I experienced the same problems that everyone was
complaining about - namely the T1/T2 wheel not working correctly.

What EA has done if actually FIX the problem that forced us T1/T2 users to have
to obtain the adapter to play the first NFS.  NFS SE now supports dual joystick
inputs OR joystick/pedal combo.

This means you can either REMOVE the adapter you had to use for NFS

or

You can run the JCU.EXE program that EA was so nice to include and choose the
T1/T2 input device and DISABLE the X and R axis options from the table.  If you
disable those then the game runs fine with the adapater in place.

By running the JCU program you will create a CFG file which NFS will then read
and use for calibration.  Without this CFG file you will see the shifter AND the
2 vertical bar graphics (brake/gas) which all need to be configured.

HEY EA - if you are reading this....

Charging $54 for 2 tracks and Time of Day racing is a CROCK!  Maybe you should
have offered it to regged owners of the original for $10 or maybe $15.  Even
with your $15 rebate I'm still BURNED for $40 plus the $52 I paid for the
original so I have $90 wrapped up in your game and you MADE me send in my old
NFS CD to get the refund so I cannot even sell that copy to ease the hurt!

Hi

I think it is better to buy the NFS-SE at $24.95 from EA.
Then sell your original to someone and don't use that $15
rebate. I just sold my NFS original for $30 :)

If I want to be VERY sarcastic, I'd say "all you have to do is read":

"This offer is not valid with any other offer from Electronic Arts."

These are not the exact words, but You get the idea. Since You have already
accepted the $24.95 offer from EA, you can pretty much forget about the $15
voucher.  (Can still give it a try, though! :)

READ WHAT!?!?!

Yes - it would have been nice if EA had MAILED me something since I took the
time to mail them my reg card for the first game.  I didn't even know the game
was out until I saw it on the shelf.  At least ACCESS software tells me when new
stuff is coming out and they are having special offers/promos.

I should be able to expect the same from a company 10x larger than ACCESS.

or maybe not....

oh well - its only money...what else am I gonna do with it except spend it...

Apparently they got one over on you then or "misfiled" a few
people. I, and a few others, received a postcard in the mail giving
notification that registered users get the $24.95 "upgrade" price, which
they actually sent me the entire version of the game.

Yeah sure but what about us living in countries like Australia? Assume
they have distributor here how long is it going to take for you to mail
your copy of NFS to them and get your money back? In Australia they
didn't mention any cash back offers on the box.  I am think about buying
NFS SE but I hate to open the box and see no cash back vouchers.  Anyone
in Australia bought NFS SE?

Ray

In Australia (Brisbane) it ONLY costs $49.95 (AUS). Now for someone who
doesn't own the original (I have the PSX version) this is a bargain!

What I did (since I LOVE my adapter) is to run JCU and make sure Z and R were
disable and save my settings.  This creates a control.cfg file which is then
read into NFS and you can then calibrate correctly.  With R and Z disabled you
will NOT see the 2 green bar graphics to the side of the shifter.

buttons don't work, not allowing me to complete calibration under NFSSE.  Also,
if yours works under Win95, what are your Joystick settings under Control
Panel (I'm set for Custom/2 axis/4 button).

<snip>

I don't play from Win95 - I reboot to DOS and load UNIVBE 5.2 for incredible
frame rates (better than Windows will give you using DirectX)  I don't (and
never have) used the buttons for NFS or NFS SE.  I use them for reverse in ICR
and NASCAR.  Leave em alone and it should all work.  The shifter is button 1/2
on joystick 1 and requires no setup - you must define it in the controls section
if you choose manual shifting though...

Did you send the registration card  for NFS to EA?  I did. I received
an offer in the mail for NFSSE for 24.95 and 4.00 for S and H.  and I
got to keep the NFS.

I reg all my software - except NFS SE - its sitting on the shelf until I find
some sucka to buy it off me.  Meanwhile I was able to make a CDR copy of a
friends NFS so I still have something to play. - since EA bought my working copy
off me for $15 and left me holding this lemon!

I know I'm opening up the proverbial "can of worms", but what don't
you like about NFS SE?  I have the original, don't touch it much, but
was wondering what differences there were and if it was the same game
with a new name.

Kyle

P.S.  Please don't say that it "sux", "sucks", etc.  I really am
looking for a decent response. :)
