ICR2 Patch - Yellow flag

immediately
slows down. Your position is fixed at the time the yellow shows, so
there is no race back to the line.<<

This is how it is supposed to work.  Indycar rules are not the same as
Nascar when it comes to yellow flags.  As soon as the yellow is displayed,
you must stay in your current position.

ICR2 Patch - Yellow flag

by Chris Drak » Fri, 19 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I just finished my first season race under the patched ICR2. The thing I
notice when the yellow flag comes out is that the field immediately
slows down. Your position is fixed at the time the yellow shows, so
there is no race back to the line. The first time the yellow dropped I
passed two cars prior to the S/F line (I was leading the race). When I
fell in behind the pace car these two passed on by to rejoin at the end
of the field. I didn't pit under yellow so I can't confirm the other
reports I have read here.

I was racing at Atlanta (a converted track) and have yet to try this at
an ICR2 original track. So I don't know if this will happen at all
tracks or only converted tracks. My next season race is at Australia so
I will know for sure next week.

If this turns out to be the only problem with the yellow flag, I can
live with it. I'm just happy to be able to finally race with yellows
turned on! :)

One other thing, has anyone had to restart a season in progress? Mine
was no good after the patch. After the patch the pace car was shown as
the winner of all 15 races I had run. Just curious.

I've got the same problem with a half finished season. I tried
copying my Season.bin file to my patched version but no luck. Does
anyone have an answer?

Unlike NASCAR, where the cars do race to the line on a yellow, once a yellow
waves in IndyCar, there is no racing to the line; whatever position you're in
when the yellow waves, that's where you stay.

My first season race was converted Sears Point.  Going through the off-camber
turns is somewhat easier now (I don't know if it's because of the v1.0.2 engine
or the v1.10 AI changes co-authored by John Wallace).  The AI alterations are
an improvement, but still not perfect -- the cars slow too early for the two
hairpins, qualifying for the pole is impossible at the v1.10 BLAP settings (my
best qualifying time was 1:19.02; maybe it's my driving ability that's the
liability :-), and the AI cars are too fast during the races (I had to lower
RELS to 95).

Like you, Oz is next on my season schedule.

I was only two races into my season when I installed the patch, but I also had
to restart the season because the list of winners was corrupted.
