Try a lower resolution, reduce the detail slider, remove trackside
objects. This system should be able to do 36 fps without too much
reduction in quality.

It's not necessarily the V3 that's causing the problem.  The USB MSFF wheel
causes this sort of problem.  I've also seen people who've had problems like
this from ISDN cards, network cards, USB modems etc etc.
Also make sure you don't have any old glide (glide2x.dll) files in your GPL
directory.
As you said yourself, if the game is running 30 fps, but looks jerky it's
obviously not just the speed of your system.
Have you installed any new GPL cars (like the GPLEA ones) with 3d steering
wheels?  They caused problems for me.

If the game is running 30 fps but looks jerky it's more than just the speed
of his system.

I had a k6-2 350 with a v3 3000 my frame rate was ok, but I had
jerks/reloads, But I had only 64mb ram now I have 128 and the problem
dissapeared (also 550k6-2). I would have thought 96 would be OK. I agree
with simon unlikely to be the voodoo or the core speed but more like the
wheel or lots of other progs running at the same time. Try shutting
everything non essential down first and then try.

Rich,

Have you got "FIND FAST" in the startup menu?
Have you power management turned on?
Have you got a fixed sized windows swap file (same max and min value)?
Have you got an annoying virus checker switched on?
How you got any other processes running in the background? eg. Norton Utils?

The answer should be No to all of them (although the Swap file one aint too
important)

Hope this helps
Ash

Blade -
Was it *REALLY* necessary to be so evil?  Drop a lude - or twenty.

Rich, try turning off some of the graphics options.  Start with the mirror
options - they're probably the least missed.  How's your frame rate on 800x600?

I'm also experiencing this same problem.  Jerky grafix in GPL
even though the framerate counter remains high.  This happens
in all resolution settings.  even at the lowest.

system:
P2-400mhz
192mb pc100 ram
v3500tv agp

Disabled during racing...

I think the GPLEA have issued some of their cars without 3D wheels, or you
could just delete all the files in each car directory but the original car
file (brabham.dat, ferrari.dat etc) which will get you back to the original
car.  Then at least you'll see if the 3d wheels are the problem. :)

The inference was that, possibly, someone had been a bit of a jerk...
