I've reading this group for a quite a while now and I haven't
seen any posts about the modem patch for ICR.

Will there ever be one? If so, when? It is a GREAT game but
I'm eagerly waiting for a chance to race against my friends
who have the game. But I'm getting a bit impatient here!

Anyone? Anyone at all?

The last I heard from Papyrus, the modem code is currently being tested.
When it is released is based on how well the testing goes...

Have you tried modem play and raced that way?

All of the copies have the menu selection for modem play.  Very few people
have actually gotten it to work - the code behind the menu selection was
"not quite finished."  The patch I mentioned will make the modem play
usable.

Am I to understand that some people _have_ gotten it to work, though?  Are
they genius programmers, or did they just get lucky?

I think it may work in a (very) limited number of situations.  I don't know
what is broken in the modem code (what situations it does and does not work
in).  I'm sure it was their intention to have modem play working at shipment,
but it looks like they fell a bit short.

I'm looking forward to the modem patch.  A friend and I have had some very
interesting races playing World Circuit modem to modem (okay, so occasionally
I like to turn on indestructable mode and push players off the road :))
