IndyCar 2.0: modem to modem

Now that I've FINALLY got a system that does justice to the Mac version of
Indycar Racing (55 frames per second on my G3 266!) I wanna try racing
modem to modem.  A buddy and I tried to hook up last night, we followed
the instructions to the t, and we got it going first crack, but we really
didn't realize it, and then we were unable to duplicate our feat the rest
of the evening.  In the end, we got the modems to connect, then got a
message "Waiting for match" and then "Invalid Login."  The manual is
pretty thin in this area, and the Help menu is no help at all.  Any ideas?

I'm running a USR 56K modem, he's running a USR 33.3 modem on Windows 95.

For some reason, the USR brand of modems are terrible for some games,
especially ICR2...What appears to do the trick is to select the Zoom
28.8 v34 settings.  Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Marc

Surely you jest.  USR is THE best modem, hands down.  I've been playing
head-to-head over the USR modems for at least 3 years with no problems
ever encountered.

I use the default factory settings, but turn off compression and error
checking.  Works every time.

Not kidding...I noticed this during my days in the CIS Modem League,
and also while on Hawaii.  In every instance where someone couldn't
log onto the network (that also had a USR - not a WinModem, mind you -
and asked for my help), tried the Zoom settings with better than 95%
success rate.

The only time (I can recall) it not working was with George Aker
(sorry Geo<g>)...He later learned that the modem was defective.

I also know others who've had no trouble what_so_ever with their USR
product - could be system-related - or a number of other gremlins
causing havoc.

Cheers!

IndyCar 2.0: modem to modem

This may be a product of the software and/or hardware.  I always set my
modem for COM 1.  Never used anything except COM 1.  Probably 100% of the
software is written to work on COM 1, but newer stuff has the ability to
switch to other ports.

I move my mouse to COM 2 and leave the modem on COM 1.  I also have
another serial device on COM 3, but it never conflicts with COM 1 (same
IRQ) because they are never going at the same time.

If the modem is not already on COM 1 then you may wish to move it there.
Works best in either DOS or winblows 95.
