AMA Superbike Open Beta - UI & Problems

by DjFI » Tue, 05 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Where the hell did Motorsims think up this ***ass maze of a user
interface.  This truly is the slowest and most annoying ui I have ever
seen in any game.  And the controller setup area is detailed, but very
poorly planned.  But now about my problems.  I am over the requirements
but it still locks up everytime in the ui.  Any clue?  I'm at...

Pentium Celeron 300mhz
98mb RAM
Monster Fusion (video, 2d & 3d in one, 16 mb total)
And whatever else is neccary.

thanks,

It does help when you have a question about a certain game, not to be an ass
when expressing opinions about that game [not to mention grammar and
spelling].  However, yes I would concur that going between the various
screens of the UI is a bit slow, but then so can doing the same thing in
GPL.  Haven't found the advanced setup to be all that poorly planned or all
that hard to navigate.

As to the problem, try grabbing the latest drivers from Diamond for the
Fusion.  If that doesn't work, then try the reference drivers from 3dfx for
the Banshee (unless I miss my guess, the Monster Fusion is a Banshee card,
no?). And make sure you are running DirectX6.1 and not just DirectX6.0.
Might even try upgrading to DirectX7.0

I guess Chris point was that if you're going to say something bad about
a game, don't expect to get help after. It's going to someone and
telling him he has an ugly car say: "BTW, how can you fix a carburator?"
It might be a valid opinion, but do agree that he would probably not
help you out.

I too get some lockups in the UI during online play. But no problems so far
offline. Have you downloaded the v1.02 update?

BTW, I find the riders view for riding much better than SBK's. At least I
don't get seasick in AMA <G>

I thought I was the only one who had those opinions of the UI.  I was a beta
tester, but quickly gave up on the game because of the awful UI.  The UI is
not just bad, but perhaps the worst I've ever seen in a game.

That was not being an ass, that was expressing my opinion.  But.... Whats
grammar and spellin gotta do with it?  Is this an english essay?  Its not like
I'm already failing English 12 any way...  Thanks tho for ideas on how to try
and get this beta working.  I think they tried to be all fancy pantsed about
it.  Out of all racing games I have 2 UI's which I like.  SBK and GP500, GP500
being the better of the 2.  They looked nice, they were easy to navigate, and
they were fast to navigate around.  The papy ui's are ok, but not on the top of
my list.  Any way, back later to post my comments about the gameplay once I get
it running.

Yeah, I love how the rider's point of view bobs up and down even with
the slightest press of the throttle or brake...

andrew: Hmm, thanks for being behind me.  I knew I wasnt the only one.  I'm
gonna send in my bug report to MotorSims than I'm deleting this game for good.

wayne: 1st person view didn't get you sick?  oh my god, I was about to puke.
But thats not saying its a bad on board view, I just find it hard to stomache.
But personaly I think it seams over done.  But [this is a general insult to AMA]
the AMA courses are not very well kept and rather bumpy as it is.

any hoo.  no long comments towards the game, but if the full version is anything
like this, you wont see the $45 us, which it costs, on my credit card.  Nor will
you see me wasting my time downloading a full cracked copy either.

end of subject,

I disagree, not if the criticism is stated reasonable. But you're
right too (in this case) the "xxx is CRAP" kind of statements are
hardly going to be received kindly by anyone.

I agree with Joe.  Its one thing to have critism.  Its another to present it
as constructive critism as opposed to "This SUCKS", etc. mentality.

Opinions are one thing.  Learning to express them in a somewhat constructive
manner will always generate you more help than not.  And people generally
may actually take what you say to heart.  If you are an ass about it, people
will more often than not just ignore it.

On the other hand, SBK and GP500 have good interfaces? Personally, I thought
that SBK's was poorly planned.  Point in case, you could not get to the
options screen until several levels down into the interface.  Not to mention
there were too many clicks to reach any given area.  GP500s is ok, but its
very lightweight in terms of features it allows you to change and customize,
especially in the controller area.

Odd, but a) Road America, b) Laguna Seca, c) Mid-Ohio, d) Road Atlanta are
all first class tracks and are not unkept.  Road courses, heck even oval
tracks, are not flat glasslike surfaces with that are utterly smooth.

Why in the world would you want to download a full cracked copy, other than
it being illegal, when you can download the entire game, minus the offline
AI scripts, for FREE directly from Motorsims?

The bottom line is GP500's menus get you on the track with the least
effort, quick and simple.  AMA's is a maze of confusion.

Did Motorsims *piss* in your Wheaties or something. You have yet to say
anything worth reading. I'd hate to put you in the kill file, some of your
post regarding other sims are somewhat informative. You aren't disgruntled
still because they didn't select you to be on the original beta team, are
you??
Get over it!!
