Hi,

GPL newbie here. In my haste to get up and running I didn't
plug in my ms SWFF wheel, pre-install. I had it unplugged
due to some flight sims not wanting to share the I/O
properly with a joystick. The game installed, updated and
ran fine with the joystick. When I plugged the wheel and
started GPL the game intelligently went to the GPL
controller cal screen which saw all 3 axis (0,1,2) and the
all worked fine. Upon hitting ok the steering selection
yelled UNRECOGNIZED. I clicked the shout and received a
dialog to steer one direction. Upon moving the wheel nothing
happened. No feedback, nothing. I tried pressing buttons to
designate steering and GPL saw them ok. I even renamed
papyjoy.sys with no success.

Short of reinstalling, would anyone here have an idea of a
fix?

Thanks in advance,
Blake

I have a similar problem on one of my setups, it turned out to be a dodgy
wire to one of the pedals, and windows was only intermittently detecting the
device.

It could also be the power cord to your controller for much the same reason.

As far as gpl is concerned, it can see & use anything windows can see, so
you don't need to keep going back into gpl to test it, use the game
controllers control panel applet instead to troubleshoot.

Everything test fine in Windows control panel->***
options->controller->properties. The steering axis (0)
inside GPLs calibration dialog test ok also.

It's just on the Controls page of the GPL it doesn;t see the
steering axis...?

Did you steer to the left?  It only works in that direction.

iirc gpl supports up to 8 axies so maybe you need to swap your controllers
around so that your wheel is detected before something else.

Does gpl remember the settings if you assign a different axis to the
steering?

You did move all the controllers through their full range of movement at
the calibration screen, didn't you?

The wheel is set to Controller ID 1.

Yeah, tho I haven't tried to drive it that way. The reason I
set it to a button was it would not let me out of the
steering selection dialog until I gave it something
recognizable.

Yeah, the feedback was there. The range numbers adjusted
testing each input full swing.

It appears that I found the fix.

If I move the Steering Linearity slider off it's initial center position
the GPL sees axis 0 as steering now. After moving the slider it
recognizes the steering axis regardless of where the linearity slider
sits. Strange.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Glad we steered you in the right direction.
